Threads removed

I’ve noticed a few threads just disappear, many posters give good advice myself included and then poof the thread is gone...the message for the removal is the OP had given out too much outing information and want it removed ...happens quite a lot! Hey ho...not sure why people post then have it removed...or perhaps they don’t like the advice ...🤔

I have had a thread removed under a different user name, I posted whilst very upset, realised I had given too much information which would have been outing to anyone who knew me and had the thread deleted. I did receive some brilliant and helpful advice which I very much appreciated at the time.

CantBeAssed · 29/11/2020 18:39

Seems everytime i get interested or comment on a thread it gets removed..bloody annoyingAngry

Lockheart · 29/11/2020 18:43

It's an internet forum, threads get deleted - it's no big deal. If not getting closure is going to bother you that badly then I suggest a book or a TV series might be better suited for you.

IlovecatsyesIdo · 29/11/2020 18:45

I think it’s fair that an OP can ask for a thread to be deleted if it ends up being too outing. It’s easy to give more information than you intend to and then regret it afterwards. But I know what you mean about taking the time to give advice and then suddenly the thread is gone. It can be frustrating.

The thread I want to know the outcome of is the OP whose CF BIL & SIL stole their raffle prize which was a computer. The in-laws told the school they would give the prize to the OP but the in-laws never handed over the prize and it was only because a friend of the OP’s told them they knew they’d won it. I think they asked for the thread to be removed because a newspaper had picked up the thread....... Me being nosy I’d like to know what happened in the end!

Batshittery · 29/11/2020 18:49

Ilovecats The poster returned with an update. I can't recall what was said, but it was flimsy from start to finish. I think they claimed the laptop in the box had already been used and they didn't want the OP being offended at getting a used prize

IlovecatsyesIdo · 29/11/2020 18:51

Thank you @Batshittery, I did try searching for a new thread but couldn’t find anything. I probably didn’t use the right key words!

HotSince63 · 29/11/2020 18:53

It happens a lot, and the MN excuse of "the thread is too identifiable" is just a cop out for "we generally do take threads down these days at the OP's request".

ilovebrie8 · 29/11/2020 18:54

@CantBeAssed agree ! Lol same for me

I think the second thread was also removed.
Batshittery · 29/11/2020 18:56

Sorry, I meant to quote Ilovecats

BloggersBlog · 29/11/2020 18:59

I agree, I am almost now feeling guilty as most threads I post on get deleted!!

I get annoyed with the "we are taking this down to look behind the scenes" - has any ever been reinstated?? I havent ever know one be put back up

funinthesun19 · 29/11/2020 19:00

I don’t understand why people get so annoyed about this.

Sometimes posters are a little bit hasty with how much they share and then realise they shouldn’t have. I’d rather their threads be deleted and they can have peace of mind, than someone sitting there panicking and feeling scared about it and what consequences it will have for them in real life. It could be something to do with domestic abuse ffs.

Well I once requested twice for my thread to be removed and was told that wouldn't happen unless it was racist or criminal in some way, so fuck knows how they decide. Angry
HotSince63 · 29/11/2020 19:05

@Nunoftheother You should have posted on the actual thread that your husband has some really identifying niche hobby, like cycling HmmGrin, and then messaged MN going "waaah waaah, it's all too identifying".

Yes, you're probably right! Grin

CantBeAssed · 29/11/2020 19:47

Aaagh..ffs just commented on another thread and its been removed😂

Dilemmmmma · 29/11/2020 20:09

Yabu. I had a thread removed because someone from real life saw it and contacted me and asked o remove it. I was really grateful for the advice and had made a note of questions and links etc before asking for the deletion.
