Spag Bol

CorianderQueen · 29/11/2020 19:04

Mushroom stew with mustard mash or an extremely hot vegetable curry with naan.

Oblomov20 · 29/11/2020 19:04

Lamb shank and mash.

CorianderQueen · 29/11/2020 19:05

Used to be corned beef hash but don't eat meat now. Miss my hash in a giant Yorkshire pud.

[quote LadyJaye]I lived in Seoul for several years, and my absolute favourite cold weather comfort food is tteokbokki - spicy carbs ftw!

This is a really good recipe - fresh/frozen tteok are quite readily available from most Asian supermarkets or even online.

Flora? Yuk. It used to be horrible. Now it's disgusting!

Butter all the way. With crumpets obvs.

TonicAndLotsofGin · 29/11/2020 19:28

Risotto with lots of parmesan stirred in

SpottedOnMN · 29/11/2020 19:30

Cheesy mashed potato but diced chorizo stirred through it.

SpottedOnMN · 29/11/2020 19:30

Disappointedkoala · 29/11/2020 19:38

Any sort of crumble or bread & butter pudding with custard
Bottle of red

motorcyclenumptiness · 29/11/2020 19:38

Veggie sausages, colcannon and Delia's spiced red cabbage

CorianderQueen · 29/11/2020 19:47

@OwlMother not everyone can eat butter

laudemio · 29/11/2020 20:23

Either ribollita, fondue or a chicken and veg homemade coconut curry with naans and saag aloo.
I also like HFW 5 root soup for comfort food.

laudemio · 29/11/2020 20:28

Oh how could I forget risotto! Preferably with butternut squash, spinach, toasted pine nuts and crispy bacon plus a ton of parmesan or pecorino. Or risotto milanese with ossobuco mmmmmm

lazylinguist · 29/11/2020 20:29

Toast is your comfort food? And not even with proper butter? Shock I mean... I like buttered toast, but it's hardly indulgent.

My best winter comfort food would be something like steak and ale pie, sausage and mash or sticky toffee pudding and custard.

321zyx · 29/11/2020 20:33

Flora = YABU

VestaTilley · 29/11/2020 20:53

Margarine would not feature! Hmm

Mine would be bacon ribs and white cabbage or a good stew, casserole with dumplings, steak and kidney pudding or roast dinner - followed by a crumble or steamed pud with cream or custard.

Hm2020 · 29/11/2020 20:56

Curry goat like a previous poster with rice and peas plantain and a salt fish dumpling

CosyQueen · 29/11/2020 23:55

Either super cheesy mac and cheese, or sausage, mash, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, peas and gravy! With thick crusty white bread to dip in the gravy Blush

Hot buttered toast is just so comforting though....but hot buttered crumpets are better.

Anything with custard

LoveFall · 30/11/2020 00:28

What I call "winter stew." A beef based stew with onions, garlic, parsnips, turnip, yam, potatoes, and carrots. My Mom taught me to use allspice berries in stews (swedish heritage). I also use bay leaves and lots of pepper. I like to mash the vegetables into the yummy gravy it makes when I eat it.

Even better with some home made cornbread or buttermilk biscuits. Or use sourdough discard in place of buttermilk.

It is now in the category of quick meals as I use an Instant Pot. A fair bit of peeling and chopping as it is heavy on the vegetables but very warm and comforting on a dark and stormy night.

ShrimpSymphony · 30/11/2020 00:43

Rice pudding

thesoundofthepolice · 30/11/2020 00:50

Beef stew with kidney & scotch broth soup

stonebrambleboy · 30/11/2020 09:40

Hot Christmas pudding with cold single cream.
