Baby bathing

Tonight my daughter bathed her 11 month old and is a very vigilant caring mum. She literally stopped watching her for seconds ie turned her back and her baby was underwater and not even attempting to move ....just thought I would warn everyone how vulnerable babies are !! 💕

Vigilant and caring mum turns her back on baby in bath.

Nope, sorry, one half of that sentence is wrong.

Babyfg · 28/11/2020 23:11

Her baby didn't attempt to move at 11 months old? Was she conscious?

ShirleyPhallus · 28/11/2020 23:14

How awful for her

But I’m not sure how much use this post will be. People will judge her very harshly for turning her back on the baby in the bath and not sure raising awareness is necessary

Racoonworld · 28/11/2020 23:17

Sorry don’t think she was that vigilant if she turned her back long enough for her baby to be underwater not moving. I don’t take my eye off my baby for a second In the bath and won’t until she’s much older.

Smallsteps88 · 28/11/2020 23:20

just thought I would warn everyone how vulnerable babies are

Thanks. Would never have known otherwise.

latheritup · 28/11/2020 23:28

Are you sure this wasn't you? This is a very odd post...

Pinkflipflop85 · 28/11/2020 23:32

Fuck. If I hadn't read this I would never have realised that babies are vulnerable...

Oh wait....Hmm

dottiedaisee · 28/11/2020 23:35

I was actually trying to warn people. My daughter is an amazing mother..she is absolutely obsessed with keeping her baby safe and I was trying to emphasise how just a few seconds can make such a difference ..!!

It’s a warning the vast majority of parents don’t need to be told though. It’s very basic common sense not to turn you back on a baby in the bath.

EnidMatilda · 28/11/2020 23:41

I think people do need to hear it. I'm OBSESSED with water safety but some of my friends' stories worry me. The main point the OP is making is that it can take SECONDS for a devastating accident to happen. I would also add that it doesn't matter how deep/ shallow the water is. Thank you for spreading awareness. Please, parents, don't take your eye off them for a moment.

Amazing mother, left baby unsupervised in the bath...

Do you really not see how these two things don't go together?

TokenGinger · 28/11/2020 23:45

At no point did she say she left baby unsupervised. She took her eyes off her for seconds. For me, that's the equivalent of turning around to take his towel off the radiator or his hair cream from the windowsill. That takes me seconds.

So much judgement on this thread. I completely understand water safety but to tarnish somebody a bad mother because she took her eyes off a baby for a couple of seconds is awful.

SocksForceFive · 28/11/2020 23:46

Did she take the baby to the hospital to get checked due to the risk of secondary drowning?

dottiedaisee · 28/11/2020 23:46

Your comment is shocking and offensive. As a grandma I was just trying to flag up how everything can go wrong in a very short time ...would you rather read a coroner’s report instead ? And yes am guessing you are a mother ...are you perfect?

Thank you ...I was just trying to highlight a hazard that we are all aware of ...am sad that people have been so stroppy and offensive.X

Confused have you quoted the wrong post?

That is exactly what happened..my daughter lives in a flat and was actually standing at the door of the bathroom but turned her back to grab a towel literally outside the bathroom...and yes she is a brilliant, amazing Mummy...some of the comments have really upset me . I was just trying to flag up a hazard!
OP posts:
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/11/2020 23:58

Why would she stand at the door while the baby was in the tub? Surely she should be on her knees at the tub itself with her hands right there just in case? Reaching/rotating round to grab a towel is one thing. Standing up in the doorway then turning into another room is another.

WilheldivaHater · 29/11/2020 00:00

She was standing at the door of the bathroom? That really doesn't sound like she's being very vigilant at all.

When bathing a baby you need to make sure that you have everything you need before you put the baby in the bath. If you forgot to get a towel you just have to wait until you take them out then get a towel.

Also if the baby went under water without even moving then your daughter should really keep a hand on her while she's bathing to avoid a quick slip.

Smallsteps88 · 29/11/2020 00:02

So initially it was “turned her back for seconds”, (which I didn’t believe anyway) and now it is actually the case that she left the bathroom. I suspect the truth is actually that she was gone longer than she has even told you OP for her child to be lifeless in the bath.

Sh05 · 29/11/2020 00:02

I think you maybe quoted the wrong post op.
Did baby bang their head that's why made no attempt to me ce because at 11 months you'd expect a baby to atleast thrash and slip around if they fell.
I always pull the plug so there's no water left before grabbing the towel but I understand everybody has different ways of doing things.

Sh05 · 29/11/2020 00:04
  • move I agree she shouldn't leave the side of the bath though
dottiedaisee · 29/11/2020 00:05

@SocksForceFive

Are you giving me advice or being sarcastic? Baby is absolutely fine thank you . I was trying to be helpful and flag up how babies can be at risk ! Sorry if you are offended by my post but we had a similar tragedy in our city last year so felt it was a good thing to mention tonight’s incident.
OP posts:
DimidDavilby · 29/11/2020 00:06
Hmm
DimidDavilby · 29/11/2020 00:07

If a baby was still underwater they definitely should be checked over in hospital...
