Baby bathing

Tonight my daughter bathed her 11 month old and is a very vigilant caring mum. She literally stopped watching her for seconds ie turned her back and her baby was underwater and not even attempting to move ....just thought I would warn everyone how vulnerable babies are !! 💕

It gets worse, your daughter was in the doorway and left the room whilst her 11 month baby was in the bath? She really needs to take more care, I Hope this incident has scared her enough that she won’t do something so stupid in future. I’m glad baby is fine but it could have been so much worse.

Obviously babies should never be left unattended in a bath.

But I think it is useful to remind people that toddlers don’t necessarily act as you’d expect if they slip and become submerged.

We took our DC to the beach when DC3 was a bit over 18 months. DC3 went paddling, I was keeping a close eye on him. He stumbled and fell face first into the sea - and then lay there completely motionless until I grabbed him and pulled him up. He was absolutely fine as I was close by and got to him quickly, but his reaction to falling in the water really shocked me. I’d have expected him to be thrashing about immediately and trying to right himself, but no.

@Ohalrightthen parents like me keep you up at night? Or the OP?
I was right next to my child when she slipped under.
I work with vulnerable families a mum who turns her back on her baby for a second is not what keeps me up all night.

No not you, sorry! The same thing happens to me, she slips sometimes if I'm there. I meant parents like the OP's daughter, who left her baby in the bath and left the room.

Words fail me sometimes.....

Something doesn't add up. She must have turned her back longer than a moment for her to be still under the water. Accidents happen and no one is perfect but this is negligence. Maybe a baby would slip in the bath, but you would notice straight away not give them time to go under completely and start drowning.

BashfulClam · 29/11/2020 13:38

Secondary drown g is a risk in this case...get advice and Google it!!!

Babyfg · 29/11/2020 23:36

Huh? No totally didn't mean offence! It was concern! Tbh I'm not perfect but am always within arms reach of the children in the bath and any water on their face they'd definitely be thrashing. Your posted with good intentions

Can happen for afew days afterwards!!!!

I hope your daughter has got her checked out
