How much do you think is fair? I’m thinking about 4 weeks wages as a lump sum in addition to usual payment. What to you all think is reasonable? Thank you :)

4 weeks' wages!! Mine gets 1x week's wages Blush

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 28/11/2020 21:00

Cleaner here..
I usually get 2 weeks money and a thoughtful gift!!
Think posh scarf /hat.
Nice chocolates /biscuits.
Nice Smellies.
Actually not grabby but it's nice to feel appreciated.
Most of my customers are long standing.
Recent customers it's a bottle and 2 weeks money.

Its2021 · 28/11/2020 21:04

For context, she is an absolute godsend and know she’s gone over and above every week even going out to buy cleaning supplies (paid for of course when needed).

We’d be screwed without her (I have a ridiculous stressful job and partner is a Junior Doctor ) so if she didn’t help with the house we would live in a hovel 😂

@Santaisironingwrappingpaper thank you, we’ll get her some chocs and wine too

Are you mad. A bottle of wine is quite enough.

HotChoc10 · 28/11/2020 21:07

If you can afford 4 weeks comfortably enough, why not! It's nice to be nice.

Bloodybridget · 28/11/2020 21:11

It isn't mad, Viviennemary! Surely lots of people - most? - give their cleaners some extra cash as well as a present? To me it's an acknowledgement that they don't get NI or holiday or sick pay.

8obbingabout · 28/11/2020 21:11

As you say she is a god send and you would be lost without her. Make sure she knows how much you appreciate her. If you can afford 4 weeks pay bonus you should. She will be over the moon with that.

Hayeahnobut · 28/11/2020 21:11

Four weeks is a lovely gesture.

Newfornow · 28/11/2020 21:12

Where would I find such a cleaner worth4 weeks pay at Christmas?

HavelockVetinari · 28/11/2020 21:14

Usually we give 2 weeks' wages, but this year we've paid our cleaner for months during lockdown without her being able to come (and again this time round). Are we awful for just giving her nice chocolates? We really really appreciate her.

Viviennemary · 28/11/2020 21:14

Some cleaners do get sick pay and holiday pay if they work for an agency.

AllTheCakes · 28/11/2020 21:16

Goodness, I was planning an extra weeks wage and some chocolates. If you can afford it then why not.

Tobebythesea · 28/11/2020 21:29

We give 2 weeks pay and a bottle.

WellTidy · 28/11/2020 21:32

I give a week’s pay and a box of chocolates. If I couldn’t afford to give that, I would give less, with a personal note of thanks.

Good for you if you’d like to give four weeks’ pay and can afford it. I don’t think that level is in any way expected.

edgeware · 28/11/2020 21:36

We were going to give £50 and a box of chocolates. We’re really really happy with them.

Bootikin · 28/11/2020 21:49

Give my cleaner £50 for Xmas and wine / chocs. Ditto for her birthday. Good cleaners are a godsend.

She is reliable, professional, meticulous and trustworthy. Totally worth acknowledging her bday & Xmas (she buys me chocs for my bday also). Not friends but a respectful professional relationship. Good cleaners are under appreciated, I’m so glad to find someone with high standards and good work ethic.

Normandy144 · 28/11/2020 21:51

I give mine a week's extra wages as she takes the week off between Christmas and New year and then I make her a Christmas pudding. We also paid her throughout lockdown despite her not being able to clean.

frustratedashell · 28/11/2020 21:56

cleaner here. I would be ecstatic to get 4 weeks money! I tend to get chocolates or a bottle of wine.
I do feel appreciated by them though. A couple of them paid me through the first lockdown which meant a lot to me. A nice card with a personal note is always appreciated

SantaMonicaPier · 28/11/2020 21:57

One week's pay. And we have paid her in full during lockdown this year.

blackkitty1234 · 28/11/2020 22:14

I bought my cleaner a bottle of nice wine. I feel really stingy now, lol

SentientAndCognisant · 28/11/2020 22:16

If you’re solvent and can afford,it why not, she’ll be delighted I’d imagine

Rhayader · 28/11/2020 22:19

We normally do 2 weeks plus a box of chocolates but will do 4 weeks this year because of covid.

MrsSmith2020 · 28/11/2020 22:24

She comes twice a week, so we pay two weeks wages and a large bouquet of flowers

whatkatydid2013 · 28/11/2020 22:27

We’ve always given £50 and some chocolates or wine or similar, which is equivalent to 2 weeks. I don’t think it’s necessarily expected but she’s brilliant and it’s a thank you. We also cover 2 weeks paid holiday generally through the year and paid through lockdown. If you can afford four weeks then why not. It’s a nice gesture and I’m sure it will be appreciated.
