Posted here as bid is ending in an hour..

I have never used ebay before so not really sure how it all works, I have been reading up on bidding and wanted to check I have this right in my head before I do this.

I have seen something I would like to get my daughter for xmas, Without giving too much away she collects memorabilia of a certain tv show and this is a very rare item that she has been looking for for years. No option to buy it now so will have to bid.

What I am not clear on is the actual bidding side of it, Say I have a price in my head that is the maximum I am willing to pay for it, going to say £500 just as an example, Do I bid £500 straight away or a lower amount and keep making it higher? Also, is it better to leave it until near the end to bid or bid now?

I always use sniping software as auctions can finish at awkward times.

Failing that last 10 seconds with your max bid and as others have suggested a few pounds and pence extra.

The amount of times I've won stuff due to an extra awkward 73p has been mental.

Hope you've won OP!

I'm gripped! Did you get it!?

I agree with not bidding early - but if it's your first time on eBay, I wouldn't leave it until the last few seconds - maybe zoom in with your max bid ten minutes before the end so that you don't miss out.

Hope you won.

Simple advice is bid once, bid late and bid the absolute maximum you are willing to pay.

And add a few pounds and pence on - so you would outbid someone else bidding £500 on the nose if you bid £502.86.
