AIBU to ask a garlic press question?

When you use a garlic press to crush garlic, do you scrape out the garlic that hasn't gone through the holes afterwards and then add it to your dish? Or alternatively, do you throw the garlic you have scraped out away?

Scrape it out and add. Why wouldn't you?

Bayleaf25 · 28/11/2020 07:59

Yep also just add it x

Poppins2016 · 28/11/2020 07:59

Depends on the recipe. If I want finely pureed garlic for a reason (e.g. garlic bread) I throw it away. If I just can't be bothered to chop garlic for e.g a chunky sauce, I'll add!

sapnupuas · 28/11/2020 08:00

The answer to any garlic question is always "there note; the better".

VerbenaGirl · 28/11/2020 08:00

It goes into the compost here.

LaChatte · 28/11/2020 08:10

Compost here, but that's mainly because I don't peel it before crushing it.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/11/2020 08:11

I scrape it out and use it (apart from any really stringy bits)

I also have a garlic grater/slicer - super fast, and less gets stuck than with a press. (and its good for using up the end of a chunk of parmesan without endangering your fingers too)

Thanks for this! When I press the link, it says the page is missing. You wouldn't have an alternative link would you?

@Chasingsquirrels

Frozen pre-crushed garlic cubes.
Exactly what I arrived to say. I only use frozen garlic and frozen ginger these days.

Does it taste like fresh garlic and ginger?
OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 28/11/2020 08:22

I scrape it out and use it.

Jaxxi · 28/11/2020 08:25

Garlic is so cheap. I only garlic press if i need fine garlic pieces so why would i add the failed pieces... its not pleasant to bite into a big chunk of garlic. I use very lazy garlic in a jar. Its fine.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/11/2020 08:27

yes, it's still fresh garlic/ginger - or did you men that question to the person that posted about frozen cubes?

I have used those in the past, they were fine, couldn't taste the difference in a cooked dish.

Enjoy the slicer, its a really nifty design for small things that keeps your fingers well away from the sharp bits.
Every time I use the garlic press and stand there trying to poke the garlic out, I have a "should have used the slicer" moment.

NeedToKnow101 · 28/11/2020 08:27

I love that garlic grater I'm getting one.

I just scrape it all in.

emmathedilemma · 28/11/2020 08:29

Scrape it in!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/11/2020 08:30

Ooooh, yes it is!
I have a recipe somewhere that you just use whole cloves of garlic; admittedly the smell kind of lingers.
I must make it while still not going out anywhere!

AlwaysLatte · 28/11/2020 08:31

I use one of those arch shaped graters that you roll over it. If you roll it hard enough all of it goes through.

MirandaMarple · 28/11/2020 08:33

I crush iwith the peel on. It's only ever peel left that way, no garlic flesh.

Captainrachy · 28/11/2020 08:33

IKEA metal garlic press. Swear by it. There is never anything left to scrape out.

Bowerbird5 · 28/11/2020 08:37

Yep. I have the Ikea one too. Brilliant.

Nottherealslimshady · 28/11/2020 08:47

I bin it, it's the fibre, all the soft bits have been mushed. I hate the garlic press though so just chop it, such ballache to clean.

AnnaMagnani · 28/11/2020 08:55

The only bit that doesn't go through is the peel so bin.

Lakeland garlic press. Has transformed my cooking life.
