I've already rang the police.

For the last few nights, there has been a gang of lads fucking about on a bit of waste land near my house. They're probably a half a mile away across a big field but it's really quiet here and the sound travels. It sounds like they're blowing spray paint cans or something up, and there's a fire that I can see. I'm so fucking, fucking sick of it.

The only problem is the police can't catch them because the little fuckers are on dirt bikes and just vanish across the fields while the police are stuck on the road (and also, due to where I live, it takes a police car ages to get here.) I've rang the police on them three times alone in the past two weeks.

Ask the farmer to spread slurry on the area. Smelly and makes the land quite stodgy so the bikes may sink in. If he isn’t able to, you and your neighbours could chip in to hire an external company to come in with a spreader or slurry tanker. Or even just spraying the land with water to try to waterlog it. If it belongs to a company who pay it no attention, the company wouldn’t realise/blame a burst pipe, but it should make it an uncomfortable place to be and a difficult place to ride dirt bikes? 💩

Bored teenagers. I feel sorry for them rn. It's the farmer's job to keep them off his land and you need to be more persistent with him. He clearly hasn't done his best, he's made a pathetic couple of attempts to keep them away.

It's also the parents job to not create thugs that vandalise. But I bet if you were one of the oarehts, your perfect little angel wouldn't ever do something like this, and even if caught, its someone else egging them on or the farmers fault for allowing access. Your point is daft as hell.

What a nightmare. I'd get your local councillors involved (district, not parish, parish councillors' powers are exrtemely limited) and raise it as an ASB issue.

Also get on to your local rural beat officer, most forces have them now. The noise nuisance is bad enough, but I bet you any money that drugs and/or alchohol are also involved. The bikes may not be road legal, and they must use them on the roads to get them to the field in the first place.

Failing that, the locals should form a posse and rock up when it happens, in full "Get off my land" mode, ideally carrying a shotgun or two and with some big dogs in attendance.

Keep reporting every incident OP. In some areas, particularly rural, police use off-road vehicles. You must report so that police have evidence of their need for more resources.

I am genuinely shocked by some of the comments on here. It’s not up to the farmer as he cannot enforce the law. That is the polices job. As for “Garrote type wires hung at a convenient height?” Years ago I lived in a rough area and kids on dirt bikes kept riding up and down a track at the back of my house. The noise was very annoying and it must have annoyed others because someone did put up a wire which decapitated a young lad, someone’s son, someone’s brother. I never heard the noise again.

Stone or concrete block round the entrances/perimeter or muck heaps. If the farmer doesn't have enough/any muck the rest of the farming community usually oblige. Poultry shit is best followed by pig shit.
The police should have it on their drive by route but if its anything like the area I live we are 30 miles from the nearest 24 hour police station.

I doubt farmer's or anyone else can randomly spray muck on someone else's land.

Are they definitely teenagers? I know a fair few overgrown kids who behave like teenagers but are in their 30s. They piss around on dirt bikes on farmers land

Don't worry a new estate will soon be built on it. I lived next to a place exactly like that in West Sussex and after a couple of years an estate went up on it. Years of trucks and mess.

Farmers round my dh old parish all clubbed together and got their guns out to pay them a visit. Police never turned up prior to this so chances of them turning up then were close to zero.

Of course no one was actually going to kick off but they'd had enough. These were grown men who came from a particular site nearby though so maybe a different situation to you but would ride accords the fields on their motor cross bikes causing disruption. They moved on pretty pronto after that.

I think it takes the whole place to club together at least and go over there and ask what's going on. Perhaps phone the police to come out and then get everyone to go over there in the meantime while you're waiting. If anything were to go bad at least the police might find it inside themselves to leaver their car and have a trot over to the field.

Not rural but we have a large car park behind our house where the local feral youth go to rev their engines, spin their wheels and shout at each other late at night. As soon as the Police appear they all shoot down the alleyways and disappear.

OP we had a similar issue.

If the land is owned by a company, you want to go after the company, on health & safety grounds.

They need to make the land inaccessible & improve security because if there is an accident involving the youths they will be legally responsible if they were aware it was being misused like this.

Worked for us with fuckers riding motorcycles on waste ground.

Can the farmer install flood lights (or very good lighting)? These kids/people are trespassing and damaging private property - surely he has a legal case if he were to record it somehow? Or night CCTV?

Does the farmer not have a shotgun. The sight of a mad farmer pointing a shotgun at them might make them fuck off for good.

Bored teenagers? In a time of Netflix (et al), games consoles, social media and books (yes, they still exist). The shittiest excuse ever. They could even illicitly congregate without being a nuisance. They're little shits with inept parents who don't care what they're u pro and, take no responsibility for their offspring.

The only problem with them blowing their hands/fingers/bollocks off, is that they'll then need NHS treatment and waste their resources, then probably be unable to work for the rest of their lives, no doubt.

A patch of farmland near me was being used for illegal raves. It was a nightmare
The farmer solved it by spreading manure one year and slurry the next. It was a fine deterrent
