Zoom Parties

I need to attend one tomorrow night. A work one. No excuses apparently.

There will be about 15 of us. All shouting over each other. I hate my face on camera. Always have since I developed Bell's Palsy. I feel it's really noticeable in pictures and have done everything to avoid Facetime and Zoom calls all through this pandemic.

There are two or three VERY loud and talkative people who will be attending, they will hold the floor I'm sure. Would it be incredibly rude of me to pop on for a short time, then leave, hoping I'm not missed?

Pop in, use the excuse you have unstable internet which is improved by only having the audio on!

I will say if its a group thing its not so bad, one to one I hate being the only one with a camera on!

Thanks, to be honest the internet will be pushed to the max on a Friday night, kids will be on their phones, DH watching Netflix and browsing too...

You need to practice in front of the mirror, going "Hello? Can you hear me? I can see you but can't hear you!" Then say you'll log out and log back in and send a message saying you can't back in! Can you tell I've done this before?! Wink

Appear, push the computer or your chair as far back as you can get away with so you’re not staring at yourself in close up (I’m sure you look fine but no one likes themselves on screen!), this will also make you hard to hear so you can pretend you’re having issues 😂. Make sure you speak early on so that your presence is noticed and then sidle off as soon as you can get away with it.

You'll unfortunately be having internet problems and will have to drop off the call :)

I imagine unless someone's watching it on a cinema screen your picture will be quite small anyway. Make sure you've got light behind you so you're just a silhouette Smile

Zoom parties are brilliant. You don’t actually have to leave the house, and if things get boring it’s funny how your internet/WiFi etc goes down isn’t it...

Great ideas Grin

Actually, if there are three loud, talkative people then this is to your advantage, because it means you don't have to say anything or really join in. You can just sit there for a bit. I have a couple of people like this and I've found it's easier to just let them talk and not bother trying to talk over them because I already know it won't work. I've even looked through Facebook at the same time.
