How would you support this friend?

Over the past few years said friend has gained a lot of weight during and having having children - 7 stone to precise. She is desperately unhappy and has got herself in a rut of trying and failing at every diet going. She has offloaded to me at how negatively it is impacting on her life (anxiety, self esteem, embarrassed, health worries). As much as she wants to change she cannot stay motivated.

Weve been friends for a long time. This is the first time shes openly talked to me so i feel like she wants me to help but Im not sure how. I would love to see her suceed because she used to be the life and soul and now shes like a different person.

How would you help a friend that needed to lose 7 stone?

I'd be factual.

Show her different diets and ask her what's suited to her.

Can you walk together?

She's told you she's unhappy.

Give her some options.

Just talk to her.

Don't tell her to diet. Get her to change her lifestyle. Good healthy wholesome non processed foods and portion control, you can get a plate guide from Amazon. Swap white carbs for complex carbs and try the couch to 5k with her. Tell her it'll take a year but you'll be there with her and encourage and praise her for her achievements.

Agree with Nancy

Ask her? I’m really flattered that you talked to me so honestly and I’d like to give you the support you deserve. Why don’t you have a think about what that might be and we can talk again. What do you have to lose here?
