What do you or don’t you like about this style which is set to make a comeback due to the Diana portrayal in The Crown?I love so much about the original look that the young Diana exemplified: knitwear, ballet pumps, pearls etc. Your opinions would be welcome - which is why I am placing this in AIBU...

Perhaps try the style and beauty topic?

Searchesforhipbones · 26/11/2020 13:05

Def get this moved to style and beauty!

I LOVE this style! So glad it's coming back!

YABU

Although with velvet headbands and pleated midi skirts, it's kind of been back for a bit!

Janegrey333 · 26/11/2020 13:17

The Telegraph is being annoying so The Guardian might help.

I hate it. Velvet headbands look ridiculous on everyone - even the young and gorgeous who can normally get away with anything. Diana's clothes were mostly horrible until she got stylists. Why does it all have such high necklines as well? They transform anyone with any sort of a bust into having a full on bosom instead. And the shoes are terrible.

Emphatically Not For Me.

God no, the quickest way to make a 25 year old look a matronly 55.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/11/2020 13:44

Also was never into Di's style at all, don't get where the whole fashionista reputation came from.

Janegrey333 · 26/11/2020 13:52

I love pearls! I’m wearing a string today with a chunky, cream Aran type jumper. A nod to the look - and the jumper is pure wool.

Always nice to see something a little different.

HijabiVenus · 26/11/2020 13:57

Thank goodness it's coming back. Some of us never left it.

Ditch theses chavpants and "scheemie facelifts"

Not at all. It’s a classic, refined look which suite everyone. The US equivalent, the preppy look, is a bit too pink and green.

All three (yes, three, long, short, and gilet) of my Barbours date from the early 90s, and look like they do because they are worn and punished regularly. That aspect at least is not fast fashion. But I will be putting them under lock and key, because my 18 year old daughter has already started eyeing them up.

MaskingForIt · 26/11/2020 14:13

Hurrah! I can’t wait for more articles on why “wearing navy blue really does matter”!

flaviaritt · 26/11/2020 14:18

Some of it looks nice but some of it is horrifically twee.

LOVE navy blue! And pearls!
Thomasina79 · 26/11/2020 14:22

I think in Diana’s case it wasn’t so much the clothes (some were awful, some lovely), but the way she wore them. She was one of those lucky people who looked lovely in everything she wore.

MaskingForIt · 26/11/2020 14:24

OP, do let us know which Sunday supplement your article will be in - I’d love to read it!

mumonthehill · 26/11/2020 14:24

Does no one remember The Sloan Rangers Handbook???

flaviaritt · 26/11/2020 14:26

I actually think she had some really terrible outfits...

DeeandraReynolds · 26/11/2020 14:27

I like some of it. It actually isn't a million miles away from some of the floaty, feminine dresses which were everywhere this summer. Also loads of shirts tucked into jeans and sweater vests (or whatever you call them - knitted tank tops maybe)?

I think this look originally coincided with other, more casual / street style looks, so anyone celebrating the death of the jogging bottom in favour of twin sets, might be a little disappointed! It'll probably be a little of both...I would guess.
