To wonder is it possible to actually be vegetarian

I long to be a vegetarian (again). Returned to meat after 2 years of veggie nearly 10 years ago. I was brought up on (and am married to somone who thinks the same) the thought that its not a meal if it doesnt contain meat.

I like the taste of meat but i hate the whole process of chicken farms / how disgusting animals are treated.

My thoughts / questions are

  1. I could just (gradually) eat less meat but cooking for DH and 3DC it diesnt last - I am all or nothing
  2. I put a mental block on mental eating so i dont feel guilty but what I just saw on News @ 10 has made me face it
  3. I am NOT an adventerous cook and think i would resort to cheese and bread (already anaemic so not a option)
  4. If you are veggie and have DC how do you do this practically? Is it even possible? (I know this is the case IRL but genuinely dont know how i could manage it)
  5. My DH would hate it and it would make cooking problematic

I’ve never eaten meat or fish once, veggie since conception. Vegan for 10 years. Yes it is possible.

We're a veggie household, it's fine. It wouldn't occur to me to see meat as 'easier' - it's just not something we eat.

There are tons and tons of recipes out there. Your DH is the problem.

I’m a veggie married to a carnivore with one DD. I tend to batch cook (I do that anyway as it’s my preference) - would that be an option? Then you’ve always got something proper in the freezer to grab.

I was vegetarian. But I didn’t make me kids do it. Their decision and one did it anyway.

I also didn’t eat quorn or tofu.

Friend of mine is a staunch vegan and so are her kids. Her kids are so iron deficient. They are quite poorly.

It was really easy for me. Any meal I’d just take out the meat. So a roast. I’d eat just potatoes and veg. Which I love anyway. Things like that really.

Me and my son are vegan, partner is not. Ill cook him meat, as long as I'm not eating it why care? Obviously I would rather him not eat meat but he's a grown man and can make his own decisions. I won't punish him for not having the same values as me.

I went veggie in 2013, vegan in 2017 and I don’t like quorn. I didn’t like mushrooms when I first went veggie either but now I eat the small ones.
My DP is an omnivore but he isn’t a nutcase so he’s happy to eat whatever veggie meals I cook for us without complaining about lack of meat. For dinners he usually has fish and meat once a week each and plans his own lunches/snacks. I usually make something that’s easy for him to add his stuff to, so our staple meals are stir fry, vegetable curry, veggie chilli, fajitas/tacos, lentil Bolognese, pesto pasta, sausage & mash/sausage pasta. Pizza is really easy to choose your own toppings.
To be honest I would just cook whatever you want and then give your DH a chicken breast on the side!
