I hugged a number of people today. Masks worn by me and those I hugged. I feel so guilty.

@trappedsincesundaymorn your post made me gasp. I can't imagine how you must feel, and I am so sorry for your losses. You must be reeling. 💐

I hugged my siblings and a friend when my mum died. We’re human. We need hugs.

hopeishere · 25/11/2020 06:55

I hugged my nieces when they left for uni. I love them so much and was so sad but happy for them at the same time.

MrsDThomas · 25/11/2020 06:58

I can’t see the issue if you wear a mask. Hug away!

Thank you.

We live abroad and managed to go to the UK in the 5 week travel corridor this summer. My DC gave so many hugs to their GP it was unreal. They'd all missed each other so much.

We were very careful before travelling and on arrival (we stayed at my parents') changed clothes and had a shower before the hug-fest began.

We have no idea when we'll next see them. It's very hard.

mogloveseggs · 25/11/2020 07:44

@trappedsincesundaymorn I am so sorry Flowers

Dm gave me a hug in the summer when everything was totally shit. I have Dh and the kids but that hug off my mum meant the world and made everything so much better and I'm not even a hugger.

BefuddledPerson · 25/11/2020 07:48

I don't think you need to overthink it if you both wanted to. I wouldn't because my concerns at passing something on to older people would trump any desire to hug.

I think anxiety is the general state of mind now!

Can you imagine if this thread, of all threads, travelled back in time a year.

I’m cev and meant to have stayed 2m from my family at home. Day one I made the decision that wouldn’t be happening. I hug my teens, I share a bed with my husband. Hugs are so important.

steppemum · 25/11/2020 08:31

I did hug my mum a couple of times in the summer, before it got bad again, but since my kids (teens at 2 different secondaries) went back to school, I have stopped hugging them.

They are top of the list for vaccinations, have already been told they will gte them in Jan, I am counting down the days to when I can hug them properly, and not let go.

steppemum · 25/11/2020 08:33

cannot imagine not hugging someone at a funeral though, of course you would

DumplingsAndStew · 25/11/2020 08:35

@trappedsincesundaymorn

I'm so, so sorry ❤

My mum is a transplant patient (I donated to her) we'd just had our 9 year anniversary when she ended up in hospital for complications of a heart attack, then got Covid. The hospital then told her by herself her transplant was failing as a result. I begged the hospital to go and see her and the wonderfully kind nurse in charge I think could hear in my voice I just needed to see her (she'd had a negative Covid test a day before by this before) they let me on the ward for 5 minutes in mask, gloves and apron and for the first time since March I hugged my Mum and it was amazing, we both cried and comforted each other.

Sometimes hugs are just needed to soothe the soul x

littledrummergirl · 25/11/2020 08:43

I haven't stopped hugging. I'm not keen on strangers getting too close though and my three year old niece declined a hug last time I saw her but we blew kisses through the window instead. Grin
It helps that we are in a low risk area but when dh work colleague tested positive we stayed away from people for 2 weeks. My family and friends are similar.

Isadora2007 · 25/11/2020 08:45

Just to present an alternative view, we hugged one of our DC and their partner. It was against the rules, but we hadnt seen them for so long. We all ended up with covid, and timings mean that we almost certainly infected them unwittingly.

In our case we passed covid in our family group (8/11 of our family got it) without hugging... so if you want the hugs and are mixing anyway then go for it.

Personally I’m in @SpillingTheTea s camp and hate bloody hugging anyway so have been enjoying the personal space immensely!

VainAbigail · 25/11/2020 09:03

I hugged my best friend at my baby’s christening a few weeks back.

It was amazing ☺️

and we wonder why the virus keeps spreading.....
Duemarch2021 · 25/11/2020 10:43

@Unsure33

They have said that for 5 days we are allowed to hug loved ones...

I know the virus is still out there and that's my point.... just because they say were allowed, doesn't mean i will be because I'll be being careful not to pass the virus onto my loved ones...

Funkypolar · 25/11/2020 10:48

DH lives and works on a military base during the week and comes home on weekends. He always gets a huge hug on a Friday afternoon!
