I hugged people today...

I hugged a number of people today. Masks worn by me and those I hugged. I feel so guilty.

I hug my mum and dad whenever I see them, not wearing a mask.

saraclara · 24/11/2020 23:15

I'm in a bubble with one daughter, so we can hug. The other daughter is very strongly a rule follower, and somewhat anxious. So I was astonished (but pleased) when she said (having consistently nagged me about being super super careful) that she still wanted to hug me on parting.
So since the end of the first lockdown we have, every time. We make sure our faces are turned away from each other, and we try not to breathe out, but those hugs are precious, and are clearly helping her cope.

Knickerthief1 · 24/11/2020 23:16

I am so going to hug my parents and sister at Christmas! I've missed hugs and family so much lately.

GabsAlot · 24/11/2020 23:17

i hugged my niece with dsis permission shes only little she hugged my waist

justasking111 · 24/11/2020 23:17

After 12 weeks of first lockdown when I could only see grand daughter through the window I sat in the garden she clung to me silently all afternoon on and off, kept checking I was still there. At 2 and a half the strangeness of the separation had obviously affected her.

I’ve name-changed for this but am a genuine poster. As my username says, I’m desperate for a hug but I fear I’ve forgotten how to. Been feeling very alone for sometime now.

But this thread has put a smile on my face and made me happy. I can’t wait until I get a hug, hopefully I will.

Duemarch2021 · 24/11/2020 23:19

Literally just wrote a post about this... the government are telling us we're 'allowed' to hug for 5 days over Christmas... they can piss off.. i haven't hugged my family since March because im scared to, not because they have made it 'illegal' i couldn't care less what they say if i want to hug my parents i will! Them saying we are allowed to hug for 5 days makes no difference at all to whether or not we will hug... personally i wont hug them as im still petrified of passing covid on to my parents and covid wont let us off for those 5 days just because the government say its 'ok' but yeah! My point is... if we want to hug and feel comfortable doing so then we will whenever we want to/ feel the need to!!!

Badwill · 24/11/2020 23:20

Meh I hugged my mum, my niece and my sisters at the weekend after not seeing them for months. Didn't hesitate!

iklboogeymum · 24/11/2020 23:21

I hugged my mum. If I didn't nobody else would.

Cam2020 · 24/11/2020 23:23

It's so unnatural not to hug sometimes. The couple of times I've seen my best freinds this, year, we've all just stood awkwardly and looked at each sadly. We're not robots, human contact is a fundamental requirement.

StirUp · 24/11/2020 23:31

Bloody Hell.

I gave one of my builders a hug today because he was worried about something. Hugging is a natural human response to triggers (distress, affection - whatever).

Since March, I've also been regularly hugging not to mention shagging my DP who lives in a different city, and we haven't been wearing masks, while DTD either.

I hope this makes you feel less guilty, OP.

Unsure33 · 24/11/2020 23:33

We bought some private covid tests and then I gave my daughter the biggest hug. I miss her normally let alone times like this .

Trees123456789 · 24/11/2020 23:33

Good for you OP. You are an inspiration. Your post (and all the comments) made me smile, then have a little cry. Life is so empty at the moment, a simple hug probably goes a very long way. X

Unsure33 · 24/11/2020 23:34

@Duemarch2021

But that is not what they have said at all .

They said take personal responsibility and extra care.

The virus is still out there.

I can’t wait to give my bestie a hug, she is shielding at the moment and all we can do is chat on FaceTime.

Fatas · 24/11/2020 23:44

Woah what's happened to AIBU? Gone all soft or have all the usual twats gone to bed?

purpleme12 · 24/11/2020 23:44

@Twistered thank you Smile

cheesemongery · 24/11/2020 23:46

I accidentally hugged my car mechanic.

It was awkward for both of us. I think I was desperate and he'd done a good job.

TheLazyToad · 24/11/2020 23:47

My adult daughter was distraught and absolutely sobbing a few weeks ago. Yes, I gave her a hug but what upset me more than anything is that I kept thinking, "I'm not allowed to do this, I'm not allowed to do this". How can I have got to this stage that giving my own daughter a much-needed hug made me worry Sad

morningtoncrescent62 · 24/11/2020 23:51

I'm jealous. I haven't touched another human being since March.

Judd · 24/11/2020 23:58

@desperatelyseekingahug here's a virtual one to keep you going xx

Since May I have hugged my parents at every opportunity and my in laws. I've hugged my grandparents too because it was needed.

Don't feel guilty OP Flowers

desperatelyseekingahug if you were close by to me I'd come and give you the squeeziest cuddle I have 💖

olympicsrock · 25/11/2020 00:01

How on earth does wearing a mask stop transmission of virus on hands , body clothing etc??
