I hugged a number of people today. Masks worn by me and those I hugged. I feel so guilty.

Hugged everyone in my street and all my friends and family the say if my love's funeral in July. Completely forgot about Covid. Noone fortunately caught Covid that day. Hugs are like lifeblood sometimes.

Heartwarming thread. Smile. I hugged my sister a few weeks ago when we both needed it. Sometimes only a hug will do.

dhisreadingmypostsagain · 25/11/2020 00:07

@ParkheadParadise bless you what a lovely thing to do, I hope he's ok.

WingingItSince1973 · 25/11/2020 00:13

I miss hugs so much 🥰

I temporarily lost my son in a shopping centre (it was allowed at the time, I needed to buy clothes, don't judge) and was just talking to the police when the woman who'd found him brought him over. I gave her such a massive hug without even thinking about it. And in front of the police too Blush

@Fatas

Woah what's happened to AIBU? Gone all soft or have all the usual twats gone to bed?
If it helps I can post some comments about how all the posters are CALLOUS and MURDERING NURSES!!!

I have not hugged anyone since March, other than DH and the cat, who does not appreciate my efforts. I am longing to hug my GDCs but don't, because their dad is a front line worker.

Had very old dear friends over for a distanced garden visit after months of talking about doing it. He is fighting Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, she's just recovered from bowel cancer. Scary times. As they came in she asked if she could have a hug - and we did. For about 5 minutes. It was the best 5 minutes I've felt this year. He hugged us too, more briefly, but it was precious. Truly precious moments.

If I could bottle how that hug felt I would ship it to all of you who need it.

OP - hug away with those that need it, and that includes you!

I hugged a relative today . Her brother is dying and I definitely do not regret it ..in fact I would hug anyone who needs one ..it’s called humanity 💕

@ParkheadParadise

I put my arm around a stranger last week. In the cemetery tending to dd's grave, I became aware of an elderly man standing at a new grave crying. He was 90 and his wife had died 3 weeks ago. I felt so sorry for him, he was so upset I even offered him a lift home. Sometimes we all need a cuddle.
We're still human. It's good to be reminded of that. This was lovely of you.
gindinner · 25/11/2020 00:24

I had a day of feeling a bit down about needing a hug. I think you're a lovely sister

purpleme12 · 25/11/2020 00:40

@Bikingbear thank you. Sending one back!

Mylittlesandwich · 25/11/2020 00:40

My best friend visited last week and we had a hug, it was wonderful but I was so annoyed that my brain kept yelling at me that it wasn't allowed.

HerFlowersToLove · 25/11/2020 00:45

Just to present an alternative view, we hugged one of our DC and their partner. It was against the rules, but we hadnt seen them for so long. We all ended up with covid, and timings mean that we almost certainly infected them unwittingly.

tobee · 25/11/2020 00:47

I feel like I've had to train myself not to hug. And it's one of my favourite things to do. I'm one of those who hugs friends and family.

My sister was upset at the beginning of the spring lockdown that she couldn't hug a neighbour whose house burnt down. Sad

DumplingsAndStew · 25/11/2020 00:48

I last received a 'sneaky' hug in June from a friend after a friend of mine died, at the age of 37.

Fuck, I miss hugs.

There's a carer that comes to some of the same support groups I do. She loves hugs. She'll hug anyone and gives the most amazing, bone crunching enveloping hugs. She is probably one of the first people I want to see when its safe. I desperately need one of her hugs.

Nowhere near the same as a real life hug, but here's an internet one instead

It's so hard to have to second guess what the risk is for these normal, every day urges.

Isn't it just. But we've all been so ill, I'd beg people not too do it.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/11/2020 01:04

We hardly see anyone extra other than sil. We get the occasional illegal hug. My bubble is ex and I really don't fancy hugging him that much.

HerFlowersToLove · 25/11/2020 01:04

to do it

DramaAlpaca · 25/11/2020 01:13

I have regularly hugged my SIL who's going through a very tough time at the moment and needs support, and also my lovely niece who I hadn't seen for ages and who badly needed a hug too. I also hug my adult sons who don't live with me but share an apartment together.

Sometimes the need for a hug overrides everything else and it's essential for one's mental health.

I refuse to feel in the least bit guilty about it.

nevergoingoutagain · 25/11/2020 04:51

I hugged my friend a few weeks back. I arrived at her house to return something she'd lent me and her dad (he lives with her, she's not 12) told me she was crying over work. Crying over work at the age of 42 means you have to be hugged. It was amazing 😁

nevergoingoutagain · 25/11/2020 04:53

Also I'm in iso for 2 weeks. I'm definitely hugging my other friend at the end of it (and end of lockdown) when she comes over!
