Wondering what people's thoughts would be if your DH got you a book for your birthday called something like ' how to be a good mum' when your kids were approximately 3 & 6....would you think it's because he believes I'm a shit mum or, as he explained so I could read and see all the things I was getting right? To note, he can be thoughtless and is shocking at gifts (as you can see!) ... this was a few years ago and it still gets mentioned now about how 'not nice' I was throwing it straight in the bin at least I didn't hit him with it

Unless it's a joke book like, "drink wine and hope for the best, wink wink", which would be bad enough, he's been a little thoughtless.

There's just some jokes you don't make, and joking about your ability as a parent is one of them. At best - inconsiderate, at worst - extremely mean.
