NHS (Scotland)

Both administration level jobs.

Would depend on age - career plan, promotion potential. Flexibility for kids.security and location.

Whitewhite · 24/11/2020 19:19

Kids are finally in school and I would like to focus on career now. Both from home and in office next year (Nhs closer, Barclays further but not too far)

The one that gives you the best work life balance

YoBeaches · 24/11/2020 19:21

You'll like get more opportunities at Barclays on better pay longer term.

Whitewhite · 24/11/2020 19:22

I was thinking the same. The bands for NHS seem very Rigid and quite low in comparison to other jobs I’ve applied for.

I've just had to make this decision myself. I've gone NHS because while it might take longer to climb the ladder I feel it's more secure and more opportunities within the sector.

foxyknoxy30 · 24/11/2020 19:25

I am in Scotland and have also just recently been offered a job in Barclays

plutodust · 24/11/2020 19:26

The one with the best work/life balance. I'd be wary of Barclays because they have closed the local offices here recently so people have lost their jobs.

rwalker · 24/11/2020 19:28

NHS loads more opportunity pension, holidays and sick.
Most of bad press about shit pay always quotes starting salaries not actuals salary after you been there a few years.

NurseButtercup · 24/11/2020 19:29

For career building I'd go with Barclays because it's good to get commercial experience.

For work life balance and childcare I'd go with NHS.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/11/2020 19:30

Barclays to have on my cv- even though I think the job is less secure I would rather stay in the private sector as more options and better money prospects

kleew1 · 24/11/2020 19:35

Barclays! I have an interview with them tomorrow actually for Scotland...

Whitewhite · 24/11/2020 19:36

Oh really, what role if you don’t mind me asking? My role is a team of new starts so quite a few.

Depends on the band of the NHS one. If it's a band 2 I would say NHS as you can potentially get up to a band 4. If it's a band 4 I would go for the Barclays one. The NHS one offers more job security I would think though.

ratha · 24/11/2020 19:38

NHS.

The banking sector keeps cutting staff. NHS will redeploy.

sandragreen · 24/11/2020 19:39

Everyone I know who works in NHS says it is riddled with bullying.

I worked in banking and it was a doddle but that was before The Crash.

Whitewhite · 24/11/2020 19:40

The nhs one is band 4

NHS:

  • more interesting
  • part of something special
  • I would be proud to go to work each day
  • great colleagues
  • more variety
