To hate useless reviews?

AIBU to get really frustrated with pointless reviews?
I am not a natural cook and use online recipies a lot. I like to read the comments to see what others thought of the recipie or any suggested tweaks. It really annoys me scrolling through comments such as 'looks lovely', 'definitely going to try this'. What use is that to anyone? Go make it and come back and tell us what you think then.

This phenomenon isn't restricted to recipies either. Often see product reviews that say 'just arrived, cant wait to try it'. Again, useless. Other than maybe to say delivery was prompt but it's the actual product im interested in.

Trivial issue I know and not something to get worked up about but surely I can't be the only one this irritates.

Couldn’t agree more, across the board! And like you say, it applies to almost everything.

The most annoying review we have for the hotel I work at is 1 star with the text “Too expensive, didn’t book”..

funtimefrank · 24/11/2020 18:42

Oh I love a pointless review. DH gets irate with the ones that give it 1 star and say 'great product but the box was damaged'

MLMbotsgoaway · 24/11/2020 18:44

Also amazon book reviews “it was damaged upon arrival”. Poor authors.

sapnupuas · 24/11/2020 18:47

"I bought it as a present so can't comment"

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 24/11/2020 18:48

Absolutely agree. Why bother writing them. And on Amazon etc, on the questions section, people submit replies like "I don't know as it's a gift for a friend". Idiots.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/11/2020 18:50

If you want to see the ultimate useless check out the q&as on products on Amazon 😂
"Is this sturdy?"
"Oh I don't know because I just ordered it and haven't got it yet"

"Can you use x in y way?"
"I don't know. I just use it as z"
😂

iklboogeymum · 24/11/2020 18:51

'I haven't had time to read the book yet'

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/11/2020 18:51

Also. You are right and I just stopped checking reviews and comments on recipes tbh.

PajamasnoDramas · 24/11/2020 18:51

Oooh, me too. Had enough of trawling through product reviews that read along lines of ‘arrived on time looks good’, but obviously not used yet. And ones where they’ve only used the product once etc. ‘great smell, hair feels great’. Yes, fine but what about a month or so down the ruddy line Confused

HotSince63 · 24/11/2020 18:51

Couldn't agree more.

Someone has given my business a 1* review - "Can't get an appointment".

Well yeah, that's because I'm very busy and as I state on my website you need to book at least 3 weeks in advance, not phone me on the day expecting to be fitted in dickhead Hmm.

MLMbotsgoaway · 24/11/2020 18:52

@HotSince63 shit isn’t it - as whole people will read and think “what a wally” it brings your overall rating down.

IlovecatsyesIdo · 24/11/2020 18:52

I agree OP, the ones where they haven’t even tried it yet just seem totally pointless!

SoupDragon · 24/11/2020 18:53

To be fair about the Amazon Questions, you get sent an email that makes it look like you're actually being asked the question.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/11/2020 18:53

Oh and sports bra reviews!
I need you to bloody do few jumping jacks in it, not stand and talk!

SoupDragon · 24/11/2020 18:53

I do, however, roll my eyes at the pointless reviews.

Can you dispute that and have it deleted? People are such dumbasses🤦
MLMbotsgoaway · 24/11/2020 18:55

I must confess though - I do love a ridiculous tripadvisor review.

Okbye · 24/11/2020 18:56

YES!!

This really bothers me too, especially for clothes that are size ‘S/M/L’ and the reviewer says ‘fits well’ - yes but what size are you and what size did you order?!
If I’m reviewing clothes like that I always put my normal dress size and what size I ordered and if it fits/doesn’t fit.

Crazzzycat · 24/11/2020 19:00

I love the reviews on the BBC good food website. So many along the lines of “I didn’t use half of the recommended ingredients, added a lot of random things instead, ignored the instructions and somehow it didn’t end up looking like it does on the picture”. Even better when they then rate the recipe as only 1 or 2 stars as if the mess they created had nothing to do with them 😂

BluebellsGreenbells · 24/11/2020 19:00

I get more irritated by sales ads.

Shoes, black, might suit someone going out to a restaurant

No mention of size or heel height etc

I think SM just shows up people who are incapable

TroysMammy · 24/11/2020 19:04

I got fed up of being emailed requests to review a recently bought product. I'm sorry but I couldn't resist writing a totally pointless review about printer ink!

purplecorkheart · 24/11/2020 19:15

It annoys me too. I cannot stand it when you read a review and it says something like did not try product as it was a gift. However I do enjoy some of those odd hotel reviews where the writer focus on random things during their stay. The whole things was about a takeaway coffee that they bought in a near by deli and it leaked on them. They gave the hotel a one star rating for it

Whyistheteacold · 24/11/2020 19:15

I once found a user on Google reviews who had given lots of shops/cafes 2 stars along with comments like "never been there" and "only walked past" 😂😂 gave me a proper giggle looking through his reviews. WHY COMMENT THEN?! He had even reviewed carparks, petrol stations etc. An afternoon of entertainment for me.

Bettina500 · 24/11/2020 19:18

The Argos product reviews that go:
'Parked right outside the store, collected my reservation easily, staff were really friendly.'
Sooo helpful reviewing the store!

Smallfry79 · 24/11/2020 19:23

Glad im not the only one. I like reviews and find them very useful but having to wade through the useless ones is annoying and if there are only a small number then it diminishes the actual accuracy of the stars.

I really feel for those pp who have had their businesses marked down by people who didnt even use the product/service. Very unfair.

And crazzzycat i am totally with you on the people who seem to make a different dish altogether and still see fit to rate or comment on the original recipie. Substitute one thing maybe if you are out or allergic but often the dish is unrecognisable!
