Background: the last handyman guy I hired to do several jobs round my house ran off with about £1000 I gave him for materials after I had to cancel the last couple of jobs as he repeatedly didn't show up, or came for half an hour then left and was uncontactable. One job was replacing the wooden garage doors - he said he would email me the receipt so I could pick them up myself, but never did.
So I hired someone else to replace the doors, who was very understanding and how unlucky I'd been. They were installed while I was out at class - one week delayed, as the original doors he ordered turned up damaged. On top of some minor niggles (the lock not working, the door not opening as it had swelled, there being a chunk missing right under the handle) which have mostly now been fixed, the doors have been put on the wrong way round. The side that usually stays shut, that bolts on the top and bottom, is now on the right, and the door with the lock and handle on the left. He said I didn't specify which way round I wanted them, although he admits he remembers the right hand door opening... and he sent me a photo of the doors he was ordering with the handle and lock on the right. This is a problem as there's a fixed table on the left and my son can't easily get his bike out without having to open both doors, unbolt the top and bottom and put them all back again. Also, the top bolt now no longer fits into the bolt case thing, and the light switch is on the wrong side. The guy said he'd help me move the garage round so we could get the bikes out without having to open both doors each time, so I thought fair enough. I took everything out of the garage (took about an hour and a half as there's so much junk in there! and waited for him to turn up all day Sunday. Called him 5-6 times and left messages, he didn't answer. The next day he came up with some stupid excuse. I've paid half of the job so far - AIBU to insist he reinstalls the doors the right way round, or waits until I can get someone else to move the insides round for me and fix the slight damage to the door, and deduct that from the final invoice? The table is bolted to the floor and the wall, it won't be easy to do myself. I'm just so fed up of being let down. I wasted the whole day on Sunday and my kids were pestering me to go out and do something. Sorry for the rant.
