To object to biscuits being served at NCT coffee mornings ?

I've just started going to my local NCT coffee mornings and I'm surprised to find that at all of the 5 or so homes I've been in all the kids are getting biscuits whilst the mums have coffee and cake.
I know I'll probably end up hosting one of these things one morning but I dont like the idea of providing sweet stuff for the under 2's. Wouldnt dried fruit or rice cakes be more appropriate ???

Quick question - how do we expect our chidren to understand healthy nutrition if we don't teach them that some things are occasional treats and that everything has its place?

harpsichordcarrier · 18/10/2007 23:32

because it is a bit of a fag to cut up fruit and it is loads cheaper to give biscuits, probably.
most preschools provide fruit ime

xXxspookyxXx · 18/10/2007 23:32

biscuits/crackers they are all ment to be stuck under cups of tea imo!could not tell you what a rice cake tastes like as life is too short to eat such things and think adding the word cake to terrible "food" is just wrong and false advertising

AitchTwoOh · 18/10/2007 23:32

actually i think honoria speaks the truth. nothing wrong with a jaffa cake or three, but if they are happy with fruit then there's not much point.

harpsichordcarrier · 18/10/2007 23:33

how do we expect our children to not get this food stuff all out of proportion if we throw our hands up in horror at the sight of a biscuit?
honestly, one biscuit mid morning - that probably isn't going to be a short cut to obesity.
imo

pointydog · 18/10/2007 23:34

don't get me wrong, I love cheese aitch. Just hadn't considered it in a flapjack. That's an oatcake really though, isn't it.

TheEvilDediderata · 18/10/2007 23:34

I hate fruit. Always have done and always will do.

It stinks .. and anyway, British people get more than their RDA of VitC from potatoes, so there's no need to touch the loathsome stuff ... at all.

WanderingTrolley · 18/10/2007 23:34

harpsichordcarrier do not give your children a bit of a fag

That's a different thread altogether.

lol a lot at Aitch

gggrrrr. now i think harpsi speaks the truth. Confused

where's the OP, she can sort this out. i never went to any NCT coffee mornings, you know, could NOT be arsed getting into the competitive 'oh it was no trouble i did it in the breadmaker'-type baking.

AitchTwoOh · 18/10/2007 23:35

will do.

virgo · 18/10/2007 23:35

in my naivity (was v young) I had an nct lunch once and opened a bottle of wine - the other mums looked horrified....(everyone still brestfeeding except for me - inverted nipples you see ) so finished it off all by myself later on - lol

pointydog · 18/10/2007 23:36

blardy hell, harpsi. I don't want to post a picture because I like anonymity. He is still single, natch.

AT my sister's wedding recently, my dad told everyone in his speech (as bride's dad) that my brother as still single. His face was a picture.

harpsichordcarrier · 18/10/2007 23:37

I once offered a glass of wine to a nanny
they didn't chuck me out straight away

harpsichordcarrier · 18/10/2007 23:38

ah pointy I really like the sound of him, esp the combing the hair with a fork. very Withnail.
does he need a muse

Beenleigh · 18/10/2007 23:38

all this talk of biccies is not good - i'm really really tempted to nip downstairs and raid the childrens treat tin - ob the lid has a child lock on it

AitchTwoOh · 18/10/2007 23:40

i just LOVE that all of nappy's recipes came from the blw site btw. it has fair warmed the cockles of my cheesy flapjacks.

TheEvilDediderata · 18/10/2007 23:41

What is the NCT?

It seems to have passed me by.

fortyplus · 18/10/2007 23:42

ds1 didn't have any sweets or biccies like wot it says in the books so he 'didn't develop a sweet tooth'.

ds2 was fed chocolate buttons from 9 months old.

So... guess which one is the skinny child that hardly touches sweets...

...that's right - ds2.

It's all utter bollox. Raisins and rice cakes for 2 year olds while mums eat cake - yeah, right...

fortyplus · 18/10/2007 23:42

TheEvilDediderata - National Childbirth Trust - it's where all the Boden mummies go...

AitchTwoOh · 18/10/2007 23:43

you know what the NCT is, desi, don't be coy.
