And I am so grateful to my DS’ teachers. Started high school and he’s enthused and learning loads.

Me too

KindergartenKop · 23/11/2020 22:23

My 5 year old wants to be a teacher so he can work in the classroom with his teacher forever.

FromTheAllotment · 23/11/2020 22:25

Yanbu. At all.

Swingometer · 23/11/2020 22:28

YANBU

It feels like the ‘close all the schools’ people are shouting the loudest but I suspect the silent majority agree with you OP

MazDazzle · 23/11/2020 22:30

I work in a secondary school and I’m so glad it’s open too. Working from home and trying to homeschool 3 kids on my own was a nightmare. My eldest also started high school this year and she’s loving it.

Spongebobsbob · 23/11/2020 22:31

Yanbu.
Everyday I’m grateful that my children get to go to school and I get to go to work (teacher)

YANBU. My two are thriving and their schools and teachers are doing a phenomenal job.

DD12 is currently in isolation due to close contact with a positive case but has been recieving work which is being marked.

Agree with a pp, the ones baying for schools to be closed do have loud voices. But they probably also have cushy WFH jobs and/or a stay at home parent. They are entitled to take their DC out and homeschool but they shouldn't try and deprive everyone elses DC of their education.

cloudcett · 23/11/2020 22:33

@WouldBeGood, I couldn't agree with you more.

rsababe · 23/11/2020 22:33

Yanbu. I think my DC's teachers are doing an amazing job.

Smellbellina · 23/11/2020 22:35

It’s a lovely sentiment, and I adore my class.
BUT, it doesn’t take away from the fact that I live with 2 vulnerable people and the worry that goes with that.
I can’t deny that for selfish reasons I would be glad if schools closed, just like you are glad that they haven’t.

Takingabreakagain · 23/11/2020 22:35

YANBU both my DDs are pleased to be at school - the routine, getting more regular exercise, seeing their friends has really helped them. Even enjoying a moan about homework or boring lessons makes this difficult situation a bit easier to cope with.
And I'm happy that they are back getting an education as the online lockdown learning was not enough to keep them occupied.

mummysherlock · 23/11/2020 22:36

YANBU - my DC are like different children since September.

Takingabreakagain · 23/11/2020 22:37

This definitely

ChloeDecker · 23/11/2020 22:37

I am happy they are open too (although my DC is currently self isolating for 14 days after a positive case in class)

Teachers and support staff are doing a fantastic job in awful circumstances. They definitely need more support from the government.

HelplessProcrastinator · 23/11/2020 22:39

I totally agree. A big thank you to all the teachers out there. The logistics must be a nightmare. DD1 is in year 8 and her bubble is currently isolating. She can’t wait to get back. She has ASD with a high level of support and is very happy and achieving academically. I’m amazed how well the social side of things is managed. Neither of my children have anything negative to say about school at the moment (well DD2 is a bit bored in year 6 but that isn’t COVID related).

Okbye · 23/11/2020 22:39

I'm so glad aswell! Mainly for my 7yo to have some sense of normality and routine again after such a long time!

Not to mention the social aspect (he is an only child) after spending lockdown with only grown ups to play with he's much happier he sees his school mates regularly!

So grateful for the teachers ❤️

Pluckedpencil · 23/11/2020 22:40

Me too. The teachers have done such a lot of catching up with them and I have seen a massive improvement in both children since they went back in September, not only educationally l, but in their moods. They are so happy and school is keeping the normality and sanity. It's made this lockdown so much more bearable than last time (we are in italy).

Beesneeze82 · 23/11/2020 22:42

YANBU.

I am so chuffed for my DC. It's where they need to be and I'm very grateful for their teachers.

gallbladderpain · 23/11/2020 22:42

YANBU
And this is coming from someone who is homeschooling due to the pandemic.
I don't believe schools should be closed. I believe they should maybe be safer than they are for vunerable staff and children or that there should be a choice to homeschool temporarily without deregistering
But for the vast vast majority of children school is the best place for them to be

BenoneBeauty · 23/11/2020 22:43

YANBU - I'm glad schools have stayed open too. My DCs have been thriving since September.

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 22:43

Yes, I should add support staff too

Juststopswimming · 23/11/2020 22:43

Me too! Every single day I am grateful for school being open, my kids are thriving being back and everyone is so much happier.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 23/11/2020 22:51

Then please, please, please FIGHT to make schools as safe as possible so they can stay open and, more importantly, so my colleagues and I stay well. noblegiraffe offers excellent suggestions on how to enable this on her threads.

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 22:56

This is a grateful thread 😊
