AIBU?

A parking one (with photo of pass-agg note)

Genuinely interested in people’s opinions on this one - I’ve just returned to my car (parked completely legally in a bay on the road, within the lines and well within the specified 2-hour time limit) to a beautifully-written passive aggressive note - A* for effort.

Whoever stuck it on my dashboard actually put it inside one of those yellow PCN envelopes, folded up so it looked like a parking ticket. Is this a thing people actually do now? Is it a mumsnetter? They have lovely handwriting whoever they are.

In all seriousness, there wasn’t ‘plenty of space further up the road’ when I arrived, and the spaces aren’t just for residents.

I’ve lived in a house like this before so I get it, and yes it’s annoying, but not really much you can do about it apart from say ‘ffs’ and go about your day.

I sympathise as I have a 2 year old DD so completely get the difficulty of hauling kids in and out of the car, but AIBU to thinking giving someone a fright by making them think they’ve been given a ticket (money is v tight at the moment) is - while pretty creative - a bit much?

Our school has two entrances... everyone who parks around the back park like utter tools, all over the pavement and over drives. It is a proper shit show and I never park there. On the other side, everyone parks nicely, 4 tyres on the road, considerate of driveways etc. Yesterday, I walked past a car that had parked approx 4 inches over a driveway's white line... the homeowner (I imagine) had put a typed note on their car!! They must have a stack of them ready by the door 😂 and lightening sharp reactions because, due to the covid-system of getting children in and out at school it is highly unlikely that the car was there longer than 10 minutes!!

The irony is that I walk that bit of pavement every day and there have never been cars parked across the driveway 🤷‍♀️

Some people just feel the need to get het up about stuff that they shouldn't...they must lead themselves to a life of stress and paranoia when, really, there is just no need!!

'Please be considerate for parents who are so lazy and unable to walk a few yards to their car and teach their children the basics of walking safely along the pavement'.

'Please be kind to them and visit them when their lazy lifestyle causes them health issues in later life'.

Unless the child is disabled, they don't "need" to park outside their own house. You haven't done anything wrong. Ignore it.

I’d print off a copy of the parking regulations and leave those on my windscreen when I parked there.

I have two disabled children. I’ve never expected to be able to park outside my house.

I had this from the man who lives directly opposite me. I was waiting in my car for him to finish parking which he was clearly finding tricky. Wasn’t revving was genuinely trying to make things easier for him by not getting in his way. (He’s very elderly and walks with a stick and a hunched back)
He got out of his car and hobbled over to me shouting ‘this is residents parking !’ ( no it really isn’t )
‘You don’t live here!’ When I replied that I do he asked how long for...
‘13 years..’
He went back to his car after that

@cabingirl

That note would make me want to park there every day for the next month.

This. 100%. This passive aggressive shit really winds me up.

Wow she would throw a fit living on my road, a high street with a school and shops on it. If I get home at certain times I sometimes have to drive round and round. Or if dh is home I park up down at Sainsbury's abs he will call when some space clears. It's the price we pay for living on a busy road.

I rarely get a space outside the house, not one of the neighbours has ever kicked off about parking.

Sad person with not much going on in their life. Park there again if you are in the area. I thought the writing was very average.

It's so weird when people are funny about others parking on their road. My Grandad used to go out and shout at anyone who parked outside his house (he didn't have a car) because " he'd paid for the space up to the middle of the road". If they looked a bit scary, he'd tell them he was waiting for an ambulance (he wasn't).

Urgh I hate this. I once had a resident shout at me for parking on his road because I needed to use the post office ‘I pay my taxes’ he shouted, sadly he’d driven off before I could tell him that I pay both my taxes and for a parking permit and yet still regularly can’t park outside my own house

When are people going to accept that they don’t have a devine sodding right to park outside their house!! Dickheads.

Beware ... I parked perfectly well on my own small cul de sac road because our driveway was being relaid. A neighbour keyed 3 panels on my car! Charming. You don’t want that next!

Dirtyblondewideroots So how do dashcams work on bicycles

Report
Cantstopeatingchocolate · 24/11/2020 20:36

Ivy, cyclists have go pros or similar, they are mini cameras which need to be set to record when you start your journey. You attach them to your helmet or handle bars.
Dash cams are connected to the electrics in your car and start recording when you switch on the engine and switch off when you turn it off.

ivykaty44 · 24/11/2020 20:45

You can buy dash and that record without the engine running, it’s not uncommon. Google it and you’ll find there are different types you can purchase @Cantstopeatingchocolate

I don’t understand people who damage or vandalise cars for parking on the road outside their property, you can move a car but can’t move your home, the aggrieved party could easily play the same game.

Don't be afraid to park there again if you need to.

If you do, consider leaving note containing words "dashcam", "impersonating council enforcement officer" and "harassment".

Being a resident is poor justification for this unpleasantness. I would have panicked at the sight of the envelope, so def not cool.

@ivykaty44 IDK, aggressive much? Maybe explain?

Report
RBKB · 25/11/2020 06:43

I live next to a school. The driving and parking is selfish and lethal. When I ask people not to dangle their dumb 4x4's across corners, park on pavements etc in their rabid determination to get 3cm from school, they either get aggressive or tell me endlessly why they need to be there. They don't give a damn about the safety of the 75% of kids whose parents park safely 5 mins ago. The police have no powers, the school despairs of the behaviour and the council do nothing. A child's nearly been run over and a pet dog on a lead was flattened in front of lots of small kids. Still, the behaviou continues. As a resident, I am angry. Not passive aggressive, ANGRY about the selfish behaviour.

Why was the note 'passive aggressive'? Maybe the author of it was damned sick of idiotic selfish parking. Instead of posting on here, look for a better spot to park, maybe?
