What's happening with Aldis chicken?

I love Aldi, its my favourite supermarket and great for everything. However for the past year I've found their chicken really odd tasting.every single breast has the same white thick gristly strip through the middle, its really odd it's like it's been added to two separate pieces to hold it together?it seems pumped full of water too and despite cooking for correct time turns into inedible chewy wood tasting pieces every time.
Its frustrating as I'll now need to start shopping elsewhere for poultry.

Our town butcher doesn't sell organic meat. I buy the Duchy stuff in Waitrose when we have chicken. It's not expensive if you only buy it two or three times a year.

Chlorination chicken! Brilliant!

RainingBatsandFrogs it definitely refers to egg production. I wonder if it's any different for chicken meat?

I avoid chicken breast fillets, they are all a bit grim, they seem to be twice the size they were 15 yrs ago and it's all water etc.

I get boneless thighs in sainsburys and these are fine.

Nichynoo I think the white stripe is a tendon. Mini fillets are the trim of the breast that includes these and theres a reason they are cheap.

I get my meat from the local butcher, bit more pricey but worth it OP!! Smile Also a lot of the time they'll be happy to give you the trimmings for cheap or even free (brilliant for stock)

All the people recommending local butchers. Lol. The one near me is literally triple the price of sainsburys so would be even more expensive compared to aldi or lidl. For most people it's simply not an option if you are on a tight budget.

I don’t eat meat but my family do. They say that they’d rather eat less meat of higher quality for both welfare and taste reasons if price was an issue. They’ve eaten cheap chicken at other people’s houses and had my enjoyed it so it’s a bit of a false economy.
One time when I visited family, they gave my dog some chicken from Aldi and she only ate a bit of it. Chicken is her absolute favourite food so I took this to be a bit of an indicator of how awful it is. 😬 I felt bad so I had to make out she wasn’t feeling great.
If I do buy from Supermarkets I buy from Morrison’s and buy organic but I did used to buy the none organic stuff and my family seemed to like it. I’m not sure how it compares on price to Aldi though but I generally find Morrison’s are great on everything.
