Amazon delivery (not a delivery person thread)

I specifically ordered an item to be delivered tomorrow. I WAH now so will be home all day.

I got an email this morning saying its coming today and the estimated delivery window is when I need to pop out for 30 minutes. I need to be out today which is why I ordered that specific item for tomorrow.

I will keep an eye on the tracking and hopefully I will be home before the delivery arrives. I don't have a safe place for them to leave it so if I'm not in the delivery person cant deliver.

It's too late for me to cancel.

I feel really bad I might miss the delivery meaning the delivery person will have to come back.

I called amazon this morning and they said they will open a complaint about the delivery and would log it with the logistics people. I made it clear it wasn't a complaint about the delivery as the delivery person has done nothing wrong but I don't think she was listening.

Aibu that amazon shouldn't change delivery dates without asking and that it's not OK to then try and blame the delivery person?

Amazon shouldn't assume that you'd be happier getting it a day early.

ThistleWitch · 22/11/2020 12:57

Well if you're in today, then receive it, otherwise they can come back tomorrow

orangenasturtium · 22/11/2020 13:27

Did you choose a named day delivery or just assume that the delivery date at check out wouldn't change?

I feel your pain. Amazon delivery has really gone downhill (pre-COVID). I can rarely get next day Prime delivery or the delivery is delayed. The prices have gone through the roof too.

It could be worse. My friend has a nominated day delivery from Ikea turn up a week early. They weren't in and came home to half a wet sofa in their garden.

orangenasturtium it said guaranteed delivery on Monday.

I ended up just missing the delivery person. I feel bad for them as (as I understand it) they only get paid for a successful delivery so they won't get paid for trying to deliver it today.

Unfortunately I haven't found another online store that sells the particular item. I have cut dozen my amazon orders and have been trying to use smaller online shops instead.

I feel like you're overthinking this really.

You were expecting it on Monday. The seller dispatched it early, or the courier moved it faster than expected, and the delivery moved up to today.

If you were in - happy days, you got it a day early.

If you weren't in - the delivery comes again on the day you were originally expecting.

Amazon does have a way on their account settings that you can indicate you'd be happy to have it set outside your door if you miss them. I'm usually out of the house at least 80% of the time they deliver and they've always been fine with leaving at my door, provided it's nothing that needs a signature (most Amazon products do NOT)

rawlikesushi · 22/11/2020 16:46

OP has said there's nowhere safe to leave parcels - she orders them for when she'll be home

JimmyTheBrave · 22/11/2020 17:11

I ordered a gift a couple of weeks back and specified a certain date for delivery (a birthday unsurprisingly.) DHL delivered and it turned up 4 days early!

I think companies are trying to get ahead of the rush up to Christmas; still annoying though.

vanillandhoney · 22/11/2020 17:19

Meh, I think it's a lot of drama over nothing. This happens all the time.

If you're not in, it's really not a big deal.

Heyahun · 22/11/2020 17:24

Bit over dramatic tbh.

Bargebill19 · 22/11/2020 17:39

Use an amazon locker or post office collection point?
