I got deleted from a Facebook group about stupid things men say for commenting that this was an overly large portion, is it not?

Is this not a large portion?

I’d eat that and I’m a healthy weight...don’t see why you needed to comment on the portion size???

@borntohula

Oh great, a thread to get the competitive under-eaters all overexcited because it's sooo important that a bunch of strangers on the internet don't think you're a glutton.

Nope, it was a throwaway comment and whilst I do think the portion is large I now see why it was irrelevant.

@MrsDThomas

That is huge. I wouldn’t eat the next day after eating that. That's gluttony.

Wow, you should win a medal.

That's double what an normal height adult should be eating in a meal

Jeez. This attitude is so pervasive. No wonder we have an obesity problem. There seems to be no link for so many people about energy intake and energy expenditure.

That is an enormous portion of absolutely gross looking food

It's largish but I would serve that size to dp with about 20% less for me, yes we do both need to go on a diet but we are happy so stuff it.

Who put you in charge of what people who you know nothing of, what else they've eaten and what activity they have done in any one day or week or month, should be eating?! 🤣

@BaronessBomburst

If I ate that I wouldn't even be able to put out.

That's what I was thinking too - I'd be in a carb coma!

Finding that a huge portion doesn't mean those saying it undereat or that it's some kind of competition.

The sauce is fine but that's enough pasta for three people

It's normal healthy eating information. Nothing special about knowing recommended portion sizes and calorie amounts.

And it's highly unlikely this is an athlete's diet and for most other people this would be WAY too much. It's a fact.

I don’t agree that finding that portion large is competitive undereating but I do agree that the comment was pointless and I wouldn’t comment similar again.

Of course you are allowed an opinion about whether it's large for you, but to claim it's gluttony for anyone is incorrect and right to be challenged. And if you truly can't eat over 24 hours after one decent meal then perhaps there is a medical issue, or if you choose not to as you're worried about having had one largeish meal the day previous then perhaps some food issues you should address.

It's a massive portion but I wouldn't say anything if somebody posted it on FB.

Yes it is a bit big. But more important than that, it looks revolting.

Depends on the size of the plate and the activity level of the person eating it. I knew a farmer who could easily eat 3 meals a day like that and he was as slim as they come. He needed those calories to get his job done. My adult daughter could easily eat that, but she's always been very slim and now runs and cycles and has an active job. She's burning off far more calories a day than your average person.

It's incredibly rude to comment on what people eat too.

What's a fact? Why is it highly unlikely to be an athlete's diet? Why would it have to be an athlete for them to warrant a lot of calories? What about manual labour? What about a regular gym-goer? What about someone who cycles their commute?
