To ask if it’s too early to get the Christmas deccys out

HelpMePlease435 · 20/11/2020 15:04

My partner has been insistent that he wants to put the Christmas decorations up since the beginning of November. Am I being unreasonable to think that we should wait until the 1st of December at least?

OP posts:
TulipsTwoLips · 20/11/2020 16:20

Too early for me. I'd be fed up of them in a few weeks. Maybe just do something to make the house more cosy and enjoy that for a while.

sapnupuas · 20/11/2020 16:22

You are being unreasonable to called them "deccys"...

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 20/11/2020 16:23

Mine won't be up for a least a month yet. Shock

joystir59 · 20/11/2020 16:24

Mine are going up first week in December to please the person in my support bubble.

TheHomelands2020 · 20/11/2020 16:25

Whatever makes you happy? There's no rules who is anyone else to criticise. My personal choice is up on the 15th Dec, down on 1st Jan but that's only because that's what I like - not up to me what anyone else does in their own home.

Meepmeeep · 20/11/2020 16:25

You’re already lagging behind. People have had them up since November 1.

TheHomelands2020 · 20/11/2020 16:26

P.S. What the fuck does it matter that OP calls them deccys??

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 20/11/2020 16:27

Someone on our street has put their big tree up in their bay window a few days ago, so I’m not going to be the first when I do it at the end of the month/beginning of December!

MaskingForIt · 20/11/2020 16:28

To ask if it’s too early to get the Christmas deccys out

Calling them “deccys” has automatically put you on the Naughty List. No point decorating now as Father Christmas won’t be visiting anyway.

And anyway, wouldn’t the plural of “deccy” be “deccies”?

HerbErtlinger · 20/11/2020 16:30

I love Xmas and the decorations but I get fed up with them if they are up too long. DP's birthday is December 4th so don't tend to put them up until after that

DC3Dakota · 20/11/2020 16:31

After 10th December here. We do have a few ornaments out though

pussycatinboots · 20/11/2020 16:32

OP
Put your flaming Deccys up if that's what he/you want.
My tree and lights are up. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

TechnoDino · 20/11/2020 16:33

YANBU to put your decorations up early, but YABVU to call them ‘deccys’ Smile

MeringueCloud · 20/11/2020 16:35

1 December of first Sunday in advent, no earlier!

dingoesatemybaby · 20/11/2020 16:37

Go for it.

Only reason we haven't is because we want a real tree and it's too early!

MeringueCloud · 20/11/2020 16:37

Just don't start a thread on Boxing Day called "I am fed up with the sight of my Christmas deccys AIBU to take them down?", because that WBU.

PeggyPorschen · 20/11/2020 16:38

YANBU

It's barely mid November and I am already getting bored of Christmas because people banging on about the bloody thing. And some people DO decorate outside their houses, so we already have the usual tat early.

If at least they could stick with lights, that would be more than enough. But no, there's always a couple of dimwit who insist on tacky snowmen and plastic crap in this town.

People can put their tree up in January for all I care, as long as I don't see it and they stop talking about it.

Life is too short to obsess about one day, and miss out on everything else.

This year is especially bad, all Christmas holidays being cancelled, most events being cancelled to, so the Christmas season is looking very grim. Who needs a constant reminder of what we are missing?
I'd rather focus on what we can do. Christmas is more enjoyable if you keep it special, and short term

catsareme14 · 20/11/2020 16:39

I've put my lights up , never too early for a fairy light ! Nothing else until December

drumandthebass · 20/11/2020 16:39

Ours are going up tomorrow minus the trees as we won't get them until the first week of December. We usually have a strict rule of nothing Christmassy until 1st December but feel we could all do with a little cheering up. Plus we've got bugger all else to do! I shall try and stay off the port and lemon until 1st December though Wink

JimLaheysWhiskeyBottle · 20/11/2020 16:40

I live in central Norway, so it's gets dark quickly here for a long time. Everyone here puts their outdoor "winter" lights up about now. They're usually white, not coloured. It's all part of koselig 😊😊😊
Then on December 1st, window candles and the big window stars go up. But they don't traditionally put the tree up until Christmas eve. Being foreigners, we follow all this tradition, but our tree goes up early December.

ImNotCutOutForThis · 20/11/2020 17:29

Got ours up. Why not? Being some cheer for the kids although slightly regretting it with the baby attacking it!
Norm wait till early Dec.

HelpMePlease435 · 20/11/2020 18:00

Are people seriously taking the mick because I called them Christmas deccys? Sorry that that’s what they get called where I live Halloween Grin

PeggyPorschen · 20/11/2020 18:07

This year I put Halloween lights outside. (since taken down)

I might do that every year, it was quite pretty

MaskingForIt · 20/11/2020 18:07

I love the mainland Europe tradition of having winter lights up, regardless of Christmas. They’re generally more tasteful than the multicoloured monstrosities of bling that we see on council estates in the U.K. though.

The window candles and stars sound nice.

Italiangranny · 20/11/2020 18:08

8 Dec in our house as DP family is Italian and that’s the start of Christmas as far as they’re concerned. Obviously advent calendars don’t count! They’re waiting in the cupboard.
DP is a big fan of Christmas so he’s buying tat already eg Christmas face masks, new baubles, festive pyjamas, a jumper...... it’s going to be a loooooong December.🙄
