To ask if it’s too early to get the Christmas deccys out

My partner has been insistent that he wants to put the Christmas decorations up since the beginning of November. Am I being unreasonable to think that we should wait until the 1st of December at least?

OP posts:

You are going to get flamed for calling them deccys.

ButtWormHole · 20/11/2020 15:05

It is 2020. All rules are out

SummerHouse · 20/11/2020 15:06

No get them out. It's the new law. Also join all the threads about Christmas food and films. Halloween Grin < is this an elf or what!?

weathervane1 · 20/11/2020 15:07

Neither reasonable or unreasonable. It's been a pretty crap year in lots of ways - given that having them up won't actually cause any harm or indeed have an negative impact on you, why not go with your partners suggestion? It will bring him happiness without any adverse effect on you. It'll also be another job out of the way.

GoldfishParade · 20/11/2020 15:07

YABU to say deccys

Imonlydoingwhatican · 20/11/2020 15:10

2020 normal rules dont apply, my mother and sister have had theirs up for a few weeks now. I would have mine up but my 3 year old is already pestering for her advent calendar, so not sure i could cope with extra weeks of nagging for xmas day

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/11/2020 15:10

I thought you wrote decoys and wondered... fake reindeer, plastic elves?

Duckwit · 20/11/2020 15:11

@BullshitVivienne

You are going to get flamed for calling them deccys.
That was my first thought! Grin
Redcrayons · 20/11/2020 15:13

Of course it is, it’s November.

I’m all good with deccies though.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 20/11/2020 15:13

If there’s a year for putting them up early, this is it!

As for our household, we’ll start with putting up one of the trees, the outdoor lights, and a candelabra for the living room window on the first Sunday of Advent (29/11).

CoronaIsWatching · 20/11/2020 15:14

It makes me laugh when old people like Anne Widdecombe harp on about how in their day the decorations went up on xmas eve at the earliest, I was watching old episodes of Coronation Street from the 1960s the other day and as soon as end of November/1st December rolled around the decs were all straight up

Put them up when you want, this year I will put my tree up 5th December

Aibuabouteverything · 20/11/2020 15:16

I agree with you OP it's way too early!

Would people put up birthday decorations a month or two early just because they were excited for it? No...same rules apply for xmas in my opinion.

P.S I don't care much for xmas, can you tell 🤣

Sparklesocks · 20/11/2020 15:18

I’m a December 1st person, I get Christmas fatigue if it’s any earlier - can’t do Xmas songs, films, etc until after then!

However this year has been such a washout I don’t begrudge anyone who needs a bit of joy and wants their decorations up early to help with that! The problem is when you fall into two different camps in your own house Grin

helloxhristmas · 20/11/2020 15:19

deccys?

Just do it. It makes things a bit brighter.

TeapotCollection · 20/11/2020 15:19

Just done ours 🎅😁

SingleHandSue · 20/11/2020 15:26

Mine went up yesterday.

I normally do them pretty early (end of Nov usually) but this is the earliest they’ve ever been done in our house.

I’m on furlough and DS2 is home isolating from school so I thought why not put them up so I can enjoy them before I go back to work after 2nd Dec.

D4rwin · 20/11/2020 15:53

December 1st is too early. That is all.

Popcornriver · 20/11/2020 15:55

I always put mine up too early for mumsnet standards. Usually very early December but never before. I think exceptions can be made this year to have them up even earlier though!

Washimal · 20/11/2020 15:58

If it makes him happy then where's the harm? I couldn't get worked up about it.

AfterSchoolWorry · 20/11/2020 15:59

Yanbu

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 20/11/2020 16:11

Is it December 24th yet? No? Then it's too early.

hopeishere · 20/11/2020 16:16

Too early.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 20/11/2020 16:17

@HelpMePlease435

In order to get a balanced view on this, I feel you need to post this question on the Christmas topic as well!

Sickofmysalary · 20/11/2020 16:18

It’s too early - you’ll be sick of the sight of them by December

Starbonnet123 · 20/11/2020 16:20

What ever you feel like , our outside ones are going up this weekend and maybe if everyone helps out inside then those might go up too Grin
