To feel the school has basically told me to keep my child home!

Basically, my dd was considered vulnerable and shielded the whole of the last lockdown. This time round, we hadn't been advised she needed to and the specialist on her condition had said that sufferers are no more at risk than non sufferers. Because she had to shield last time the school have said she needs to be at home until we can get it in writing from the doctors that she’s ok to be in school. It seems to me a bit like shutting the stable after the horse has bolted as surly she should’ve been shielding since the start of the 4 week lockdown, not 2 weeks into it! 🙄 Obviously, her health and well being is my number one priority but I think the pros of her being at school and the benefit to her mental health far out weigh the negatives. We got a letter from the NHS just saying that guidelines had changed and to find out from GP if she needs to shield. I called the docs but no one seems able to give me a definite answer. Then the school called again this evening and said that the LA have advised them that children who shielded last time needed to be at home until they get written confirmation from GP that it’s ok for her to be in school. I'm so annoyed!!!

That's certainly not Government advice nor is it the advice from our LA. We have been told that if children need to shield then they will be sent a letter from their consultant and can show that to school.
The message we are getting loud and clear is that everyone ought to be in school, including staff and children who were shielding last time unless they have a new letter saying they need to shield this time.
I would ask your school to show you where, in writing, their advice is coming from because it certainly isn't the DfE.

It's not the school saying that, it's the LA. Maybe phone the LA direct and ask them about it?

Tootsietoot · 19/11/2020 22:27

Maybe it's because you've seen some of the anti-mask/ 5G twatheads and don't worry that some parents I no longer listening to medical advice? I'm not anyway suggesting that you are like this but I have seen some truly appalling posts on here and on Facebook so maybe they're been there precautious?

Not you but they!

Cant you phone the consultants secretary and get them to email the school?

@Waveysnail

Cant you phone the consultants secretary and get them to email the school?
I have been in contact with the consultant but no one seems able to give me a divinities answer. The school apparently need it in worrying that it's safe for her to be there. I feel like they've told me I have to keep her home and that's the end of it.
