WWYD with a duplicate item?

Bought a speaker 2 weeks ago, the included charging dock doesn’t work. I contacted the manufacturer to swap out the faulty dock, they immediately sent one out....

Opened the box to find they sent a brand new speaker which includes a new charging dock. Alerted them via email and asked for a return postage label. They replied they sent the speaker on purpose as a goodwill gesture as they don’t have standalone docks in stock. They don’t want the original products sent back as it’s not cost effective.🤯

WWYD with this extra £200 speaker?? DP thinks Christmas came early and we should send the new one back to the retailer (not the same as manufacturer) and get a full refund whilst keeping the original one. I think that seems dodgy as it’s a “double resolution”, he said it’s not as the manufacturer said we can do what we want with it. I think just donate/gift it minus the new dock, he said the recipient would want the charging dock and think it’s weird if it isn’t included?

YABU = DP is right
YANBU = I’m right

eBay.

Ohdoleavemealone · 19/11/2020 22:06

I'd sell the original and keep the new.

Poppyolive90 · 19/11/2020 22:07

I’d sell it on eBay without dock. There’s nothing dishonest about that but returning to retailer is dishonesty.

FundamentallyFucked · 19/11/2020 22:10

Can you buy chargers for it though?

If you can I would buy one then sell the speaker and charger together. If not then it's no use to anyone. I wouldn't return it though, why would the retailer refund you for a speaker without a charging dock (because presumably you would need to keep that)

throwaway100000 · 19/11/2020 22:15

Sorry, there would be a normal charger with the new speaker as the charging dock is separate. So it would be 100% useable.

DP just said return the faulty set to the retailer then, but I do think it’s dishonest!

As the manufacturer sorted the fault out

It's not being dishonest, you contacted them and they told you it was a goodwill gesture and to keep so it's yours to do as you want.

I wouldn't return to retailer though I would just sell on Facebook/ eBay.

womanthatfelltoearth · 19/11/2020 22:55

If you return to the retailer as faulty, they will return to manufacturer who will have to credit the retailer and may even have to pay additional charges for sending faulty stock.

If you don't want the second charger, sell on eBay.
