Not wearing glasses can improve these under eye circles? Sad

I've worn glasses since I was about 5? I don't have the best sleeping pattern atm (Monday went to college on no sleep, went to sleep at 8pm, woke up at 11am Tuesday morning, 2 hours sleep last night and obviously not asleep yet! At college again tomorrow so probably not much sleep tonight again) but when I have had a consistent sleep schedule of at least 8 hours every night, they were still there.

I heard glasses can cause bad under eye circles, and cause 'sinking' which I have a lot of as well, and I've come to the conclusion this is my problem. I'm considering switching to contact lenses for multiple reasons:
1: this, I hate them so much and I've cried over them before Sad they make me look so dead and worn out
2: I can't be arsed with my glasses steaming up when I'm wearing a mask anymore Angry I get headaches almost everyday due to having to take my glasses off just to see without bloody mist!
3: I fancy a change in my appearance tbh

Aibu and wishful thinking?

If it will make you happier just do it.

I don't know about glasses causing dark circles and sunken eyes. Where did you hear that?

DuzzyFuck · 18/11/2020 22:25

Also never heard of glasses causing dark circles or 'sinkage' and I've worn them for well over 20 years.

Your sleep pattern at the moment definitely won't be helping, is there anything you can do to even that out? How's your skincare routine?

jennie0412 · 18/11/2020 22:39

Can't remember exactly where I heard it but I definitely remember it! Also something about how sleeping with your glasses on worsens this, and I do this almost every night Blush

@DuzzyFuck I can definitely try to but I tend to work much better at night so when I want to be productive and actually feel some creativity I end up staying up much too late and feeling exhausted the next day Blush
My skin care is meh, I recently started it up again and it's just moisturiser in the morning, cleanser + moisturiser + rose hip oil at night.

I googled it after reading this and glasses would only cause circles apparently if they're too heavy or too tight. Modern light frames with thinnish lenses shouldn't cause a problem. Definitely don't sleep in them though?!?

I think you need to work on a compromise between your creativity and sleeping enough. Surely the work you're doing in college must suffer if you're turning up on 0-2 hours sleep?

My mum used to complain her eye-wrinkles were worse because of putting contact lenses in and out, pulling at the skin when you do so.

Maybe try drinking more water and sorting out your sleep? But really if you want lenses then have them!

jennie0412 · 18/11/2020 22:55

Oh god yes water Blush I haven't drank a plain glass of water/squash for months ShockBlush

I mainly drink tea or diet soda (Pepsi Max or Cream Soda)

However, when I was younger I also had horrible dark circles too and I was definitely not drinking diet drinks then!
I've always been a night owl though, I remember at age 9, crying because I was so exhausted being pulled out of bed at 8am when I had only got 3 hours sleep, but I couldn't sleep before that time no matter how much I will myself!
I think the only reason I'm not completely exhausted because I make up for it on days I'm not expected to go out, I sleep for at least 13 hours normally but then the next day go straight back to 0-3 hours sleep Blush

Sounds more like a deficiency (anemia, Vit D, thyroid, diabetes etc) or lack of sleep and stress causing dark cirles. I've worn glasses 20yrs and the rims dont even touch the skin under my eye. Why would they cause dark circles? I dont have any BTW!

During early covid it, was advised that people DONT wear contacts due to the added risk of infection/introducing virus into your eye. No idea of this is still the advise, but I'd be considering correcting the other issues like lack of sleep and checking for deficiencies before blaming glasses!

There's your problem.

I think not drinking water or getting enough sleep are far more likely to be the cause

YANBU to try contact lenses if you want to of course. I just don’t think they will do anything about the issue
