Posting here for traffic.

Recently bought a Dr Brown's Bottle Steriliser. Instructions clearly state distilled water must be used.

Don't seem to be able to find distilled water readily available anywhere.. except Amazon and Halfords (for car batteries). DP is reluctant to buy from Amazon and we're a bit sceptical about using water advertised for car batteries.

All search results return serilised water, de-ionised water and mineral water.. but not distilled water.

Does anyone else have a Dr Brown's Bottle Steriliser? What water are you using?

Does anyone know where I can buy distilled water?????? I'm in London.

The car battery stuff will be the same thing I expect. Maybe a chemist? But this will get expensive if you're using different water each time won't it?
I'd get a different steriliser, probably work out cheaper.

Deionised water can be bought in places like Wilko's for car batteries and irons.

It's demineralised and won't cause scale when it's boiled.

Distilled is water that's been previously boiled and condensed in a cold water trap.

Deionised is a higher specification and sounds suitable for your sterilizer.

I was just going to say the same as Lethargic the ones from a garage/car place would be okay to use otherwise Chemists used to sell distilled water.

Powerfulpam · 18/11/2020 21:11

Pharmacy can supply in bulk relatively cheaply

pinkbalconyrailing · 18/11/2020 21:11

distilled water - look at ironing water.

Broadbeanssleeping · 18/11/2020 21:11

I think water that is collected from tumble dryers is distilled? No idea how safe it is!!

Wishitsnows · 18/11/2020 21:14

Is distilled water not just boil the kettle then let it cool?

greenemerald · 18/11/2020 21:14

From Halfords is fine. I work in dentistry and I know they've bought it from there before for the sterilisers we have when running low.

LaMainDeFatima · 18/11/2020 21:15

School Science suppliers

Ohtherewearethen · 18/11/2020 21:17

I've a feeling garden centres sell it. Ones with aquaria supplies. Might be worth trying your local one?

hiredandsqueak · 18/11/2020 21:17

Pharmacy is where I buy it from.

Lemonylemony · 18/11/2020 21:19

Medical/veterinary/dental suppliers

imseuro.co.uk/veterinary/distilled-water.html

Sounds like a faff though, how much does it need each time?

sporkle · 18/11/2020 21:20

I just googled the instructions for one model and it says tap water can be used, you just need to descale the machine regularly.

Boil the kettle? Confused

LittleTruffle · 18/11/2020 21:36

Thanks all!

Will be putting a phone call in to the local pharmacy tomorrow morning 👍 and if no joy with them, will look at some of the other suggestions posted her.

I would just boil the kettle. It’s just to stop it scaling up I assume.

leolion1 · 18/11/2020 21:38

It's just boiled water

LittleTruffle · 18/11/2020 21:39

@Regularsizedrudy

Boil the kettle? Confused
Just boiling the water does not distil the water.

You'd need to boil the water and collect the steam/condensation (that's the distilled water). The minerals etc are left in the bottom.

No, it's not.

Is this your first baby by any chance?

I’ve had 3. I never in my life filled a steam steriliser with anything but water out of the kettle.

VienneseWhirligig · 18/11/2020 21:41

The stuff for cars is fine. It's also a lot cheaper in the supermarket than Halfords.

billydilly · 18/11/2020 21:41

Any aquarist shop will sell it op

Ffsnosexallowed · 18/11/2020 21:42

Wouldn't a water filter do the job then? Or water from condenser dryer? (Thankful to live in Scotland with beautifully soft watee)

AldiAisleofCrap · 18/11/2020 21:43

You really don’t need distilled water, just clean it regularly.

mollypuss1 · 18/11/2020 21:44

‘Smart Water’ is distilled. It’s the only bottled water I’ve found that is.
