Posting here for traffic.

Recently bought a Dr Brown's Bottle Steriliser. Instructions clearly state distilled water must be used.

Don't seem to be able to find distilled water readily available anywhere.. except Amazon and Halfords (for car batteries). DP is reluctant to buy from Amazon and we're a bit sceptical about using water advertised for car batteries.

All search results return serilised water, de-ionised water and mineral water.. but not distilled water.

Does anyone else have a Dr Brown's Bottle Steriliser? What water are you using?

Does anyone know where I can buy distilled water?????? I'm in London.

Most people would just use tap water and descale often

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 18/11/2020 21:45

If just boiling the kettle stopped it scaling up, then why do kettles scale up?!

nancybotwinbloom · 18/11/2020 21:47

Can you not just email dr browns and ask them what they advise brands wise?

onepieceoflollipop · 18/11/2020 21:52

I found this online to explain why distilled water is recommended (more info on the website)

dementedpixie · 18/11/2020 21:54

That's what descalers are for

Sleazeyjet · 18/11/2020 21:58

So you buy kettle descaler and use it in the steriliser every so often. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gardenista · 18/11/2020 22:01

I collect the water from my condenser tumble dryer to use in my steam mop for this scale reason. It is distilled water

ManxiousCat · 18/11/2020 22:13

Buy a water distiller and distill your own...its lovely to drink and no scale in your kettle at all, tea tastes amazing

Peaseblossom22 · 18/11/2020 22:15

Honestly you can buy it in a Tesco’s in the ironing section.

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 18/11/2020 22:26

Go to your local aquarium shop and ask for RO water (reverse osmosis - does the same job as distillation wrt the minerals that will clog your steriliser)
Cheap as chips, like 15p a litre

Dashel · 18/11/2020 22:59

We buy the deionised water from car shops for our off grid batteries and you can get it in 25 litre containers. We even drank it when we had a problem with our water pump so it’s ok to drink.

We are no where near London but get ours from

allianceautomotive.co.uk/our-network/motor-factor-locations/?postcode=London&currentlocation=&radius=&factor=

If you need stuff for your car the staff are really helpful and we get oil for ours cars, chainsaw and lawn mower from there too.

LadyShrek2k19 · 18/11/2020 23:03

I get distilled water from Asda that I use in my iron.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 18/11/2020 23:08

@Wishitsnows

Is distilled water not just boil the kettle then let it cool?
No.
QuestionableMouse · 18/11/2020 23:09

Boiling the water takes the limescale out of the water so it doesn't scale the next thing you use it in. I save leftover boiled water to use in my iron and humidifier.
Eng123 · 18/11/2020 23:11

In sterilisers I always used tap water and periodically scrubbed the salts away. Not sure why at and type would be different?

cbt944 · 18/11/2020 23:31

Supermarket.

Mylittlesandwich · 18/11/2020 23:39

What an incredible faff. I know you can buy stuff to descale a steriliser. Would that be easier?

cinders222 · 18/11/2020 23:42

You can buy it on Amazon

VanGoghsDog · 18/11/2020 23:43

@Regularsizedrudy

Boil the kettle? Confused
That's boiled water, not distilled water.

Distilled water is the condensation that forms inside the lid of a kettle. Or the water from the tumble dryer.

PickAChew · 18/11/2020 23:45

Tumble dryer water has cloth fibres in and isn't suitable.

quickkimchi · 18/11/2020 23:46

We get these delivered while my mum is visiting, she uses it in her CPAP machine: www.thedistilledwatercompany.com/distilled-water-10-litres

Time2change2 · 18/11/2020 23:46

Just use normal water op. I can guarantee you people don’t go searching pharmacies or raiding Halfords for distilled water to put in their steriliser!!! I’ve had 3 kids - just use normal water. By the time it starts to scale up you will probably have finished using it anyway! Just a good clean out now and again will work

PickAChew · 18/11/2020 23:47

Boiling tap water precipitates out limescale. When I lived in a very hard water area, I used cooled boiled water in my iron.

SpillingTheTea · 18/11/2020 23:48

I work in a dentist and we use distilled water for the auto claves. We buy ours from henry shein (not sure if you can just buy from there?).
