Sorry you're underappreciated at home, but I hope you manage to treat yourself and make yourself feel special somehow - you deserve it!

Happy 50th birthday, @100islandslake I hope you had reasons to smile today. I suggest as a gift to yourself you treat yourself to 50 joyful things - around once per week? Little things like a shot of syrup in your coffee or the best olives you can buy or big things like a trip with a friend or a jewellery momento. You will know and have a reason to smile. It is a horrible situation to be in with your family, I'm truly sorry that they didn't bother. It might take time for you to work out how you want to broach that with them. Whilst you work that out start planning your 50 acts of kindness to yourself, celebrate what you have lived thus far.
