Aibu? The UK is fucked thanks to the swivel eyed brexiteer loons - this article is terrifying

I saw the DfE was advising schools to stock up with long life products.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2020 07:36

I'm going to be frank: haven't you thought about this before, op?

Allthestarsarecloser · 18/11/2020 07:36

Fresh food will be stuck for days in a car park in Dover- no one has a clue what’s about to happen

OP posts:
Allthestarsarecloser · 18/11/2020 07:37

@bellinisurge of course I have- I am a staunch remainer! It just worries me that, as Monbiot says, the government don’t feel it’s their responsibility to feed the population

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 07:41

I'm intrigued why 2 people have voted YABU without providing their reasoning as to why they're confident there won't be any shortages.

Allthestarsarecloser · 18/11/2020 07:43

@NoWordForFluffy ideological madness probably. Reality is about to totally undermine the brexiteer lies

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 18/11/2020 07:46

They are trying to push responsibility for food supply to schools ON schools. Contemptible toads.

Tellmetruth4 · 18/11/2020 07:48

@NoWordForFluffy erm ‘Brexit means Brexit!’, ‘We knew what we voting for’!, ‘they need us more than we need them’!, ‘it’s all part of Boris’s secret plan, he’s a master negotiator’!, ‘it’s you remainers talking is down who will cause this!’, ‘just beLeave’!, ‘we won two world wars!’, ‘in WW2, we had rations and we were really happy!’, ‘this will cure obesity!’, ‘it’s the EUs fault for not putting us first!’, ‘the people have spoken!’ And other assorted meaningless slogans.

Allthestarsarecloser · 18/11/2020 07:52

@Tellmetruth4 excellent post!

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 07:52

@Tellmetruth4, you're most likely right, yes. I'd just like to see their actual reasoning and well-thought-out arguments against the journalist's research-driven article. 🤷‍♀️ #pigsmightfly

SnuggyBuggy · 18/11/2020 07:52

I'm stockpiling food. People laugh at the idea of this but I feel better for having it. A lot of people are not unreasonably dwelling on the covid crisis and don't have the headspace for this though.

Nothowiexpected · 18/11/2020 07:54

I've been worried for 4 years, cannot believe we're heading into this as the virus crisis will doubtless reach its zenith Confused

Allthestarsarecloser · 18/11/2020 07:57

@SnuggyBuggy I am about to do the same to be honest. It makes me cringe that it’s all about Xmas on the TV when a week after Xmas we could be in serious trouble!

YABU. It’s nothing but hysteria.

Brexit is the way forward for this country.

PicsInRed · 18/11/2020 08:00

Pretty much - this is why many of us were ready for Covid when it first hit - the "Brexit Cupboard".
I recall we were screamed at as evil stockpilers at the time, despite our advance preparedness taking immediate pressure off the system.

Nothing will change and the same people will be unprepared and screeching like it's our fault come the end of January. Again.

KaptainKaveman · 18/11/2020 08:01

@emilyfrost

YABU. It’s nothing but hysteria.

Brexit is the way forward for this country.

Haha yes indeed, who cares about food shortages when we TOOK BACK CONTROL? Grin
Allthestarsarecloser · 18/11/2020 08:01

@NoWordForFluffy yea why let some actual research driven facts get in the way of the brexit madness eh?

OP posts:
longwigglylines · 18/11/2020 08:04

I don't understand why Labour haven't got a grip of this. Why aren't they challenging the government on this? If the Gicernment are steering us to obvious disaster surely the opposition's job is to challenge them on it?

Are the SNP faring any better? Anyone Scottish here? Are people aware what a risk this is, come January?

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 18/11/2020 08:04

Stockpile food and please also donate to your local Foodbank if you have the means to do so. It'll be hard on everyone but those at the bottom of society, who can't afford to stockpile, are going to be totally fucked by this.

emilyfrost · 18/11/2020 08:04

Facts? That’s a stretch.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 08:05

@emilyfrost

YABU. It’s nothing but hysteria.

Brexit is the way forward for this country.

Could you please explain why the article is wrong?
Ylvamoon · 18/11/2020 08:06

I don't think there will be fresh food shortages, just price hikes to cover up the shortages!

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 08:07

@emilyfrost, can you explain why there won't be delays at ports and subsequent food shortages / price rises, when the government has this as a likely scenario?

HappyPunky · 18/11/2020 08:07

My brexit cupboard saved us from going hungry when the panic buyers emptied the shops at the start of covid. If that's how people behave when there isn't a supply issue then we should be worrying about delays in January.
You need to prep - all remainers should be prepping. If the government can't sort anything out then it will be brexiters causing chaos in the shops.
If they do sort something out our cupboards will be full and we can treat ourselves in January with the money we won't be spending on shopping. Win win

bellinisurge · 18/11/2020 08:08

Don't tell people you have extras in. Sorry it's come to that.
Don't give a fuck how you voted. This government will not help you.
