What is the point of a B Day, does anyone actually use them?

Does anyone have a B day, in this day and age are they still being used? My parents have one and it just got me thinking, like how does it work, I have never used one before, isn't having a shower easier, can someone explain to me?

Now that I'm over 50 I'm also wondering what the point of B-days is.

joystir59 · 18/11/2020 00:12

You use it to wash your clothes in before putting them away in your Chester drawers

I was very confused too OP. Our bidet was removed when our en suite bathroom was updated. It went the way of the twin hand basins!! Never ever used one except once for a laugh in a hotel when I was about 12!!

TMIincoming · 18/11/2020 00:26

Never used one, but I did hear that Joe Biden got a bidet for his b day

VienneseWhirligig · 18/11/2020 00:32

The Shangri-La restaurant at the Shard has Japanese toilets. I had about 6 wees when we went for afternoon tea just because I was so excited at being able to sit on the loo, charging my phone, washing my bum and looking out over London from a great height (one way plate glass cubicle) Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 18/11/2020 00:45

@VienneseWhirligig that sounds like luxury!

I’d love to have one at home one day.

pollyglot · 18/11/2020 00:56

I was very excited to discover compostable wet-wipes...I have them in my composting loo in the garden, and they just go in with the biological products plus sawdust and coconut fibre "covering". Amazing quality compost - you should see my geraniums.

VienneseWhirligig · 18/11/2020 00:56

@MiddleClassProblem it is! They even had magazines in there for reading material Grin

BooseysMom · 18/11/2020 01:11

How funny. I have always referred to birthdays as B Day ever since DM used to abbreviate to this on her many calendars. When I said B Day to dad he had no idea what I meant and presumed it was bidet. They were only together for nearly 50 years! Honestly!

ktp100 · 18/11/2020 01:26

I am howling!! I thought you meant Birthday!!

We have one. None of us have ever used it.

It's just weird to think that the couple we bought the house from washed their butt holes there Confused

draughtycatflap · 18/11/2020 01:30

Why are so many Brits so averse to washing their butt holes? Dirty buggers!

jessstan1 · 18/11/2020 01:56

I'd like one and may have one one day. You can have toilets that are also bidets but I've never seen one so don't know how they work; presumably you flick a switch after 'toileting' and a fountain points upwards. What a thought! I think I'd prefer a separate one but obviously you need to have the room for it.

fallfallfall · 18/11/2020 02:02

what?? you tried to google it and still couldn't figure it out?
honestly they are amazing for washing cloth diapers.

DryRoastPeanut · 18/11/2020 02:02

Another one here who thought op meant birthday.

My cousin had a bidet, she used to use it as a drinking bowl for her dog! She’d fill it every night with clean water as she and her dog went to bed.

blueshoes · 18/11/2020 02:09

I have one installed in my ensuite. I am always thrilled if a hotel or BnB have one. It is so hygienic and convenient. If I am at work and don't have access to one, it feels great to come home and be able to 'strip wash' after every visit to the bathroom.

I agree that it is grim not to wash with at least water, if not soap.

Lucky they didn't use the shower and/or bath in said house then.

Shortsinwinter · 18/11/2020 03:11

I love mine, especially a few months ago when the world was losing its mind over buying enough toilet roll.

decoratingnightmare · 18/11/2020 03:52

*Good for washing small terriers

I need one for this Grin

FlyNow · 18/11/2020 04:02

I don't have one but surely the point is obvious. If you got poo on your arm, would you think it was better to clean it with dry paper or with water? There you go.

K1ran · 18/11/2020 04:11

🤣🤣

You most likely won't get bidets anymore as you can get toilets with the water nozzle and tap attached to it to wash your bits with. They are absolutely brilliant unless you have toddlers.

GlendaBulb · 18/11/2020 04:40

I’m having a new bathroom installed and have squeezed in a bidet. I like being clean.

sashh · 18/11/2020 04:47

I saw the title & thought you were talking about birthdays

So did I.

I'm now looking forward to B-day appearing on the baby name threds

cultkid · 18/11/2020 04:56

Love them for many reasons
Environmental factors also

So quick
Good hygiene practise
Nice for feet
Shaving legs
Leaving things to soak
Watering plants

cultkid · 18/11/2020 04:56

This is also the best title of a thread ever
