Deferred holiday 2021 UCAS and clearing

Hi I wondered if there’s anyone in education or UCAS who might have some advice.

We will be on our deferred family holiday on The rescheduled A level results day. (The holiday was deferred to not clash, but then the results day was put back). My daughter has put in her UCAS form but I’m worried that we will need to be around to sort things out if her results are not what she wants.

So mumsnet advice please if you’ve had to support child through clearing is it something you can do online. Or is it ringing round uni ? And how hassle free is the process ? would you not go on holiday? We didn’t go this year but don’t want to lose more money if daughter insists on staying here to sort things out.

I mean it’s online or phone calls really, yes it could be ringing round unis ( although unlikely as clearing is mainly online) but even if it is and it eats into your holiday a bit then it’s fine no? It wouldn’t require physical presence in the UK but phone bill could be up a bit.

I hate to say it but she will be very stressed if it gets to that point and she needs to go through clearing, and that's if she was in this country...

I did clearing with DD last year and it was so stressful.

In fact ds2 is in yr 13 and i am hoping (thinking) his UCAS form is more realistic as I really don't want that day again.

Dd for various(good) reasons missed her grades by quite a bit so despite me researching in advance, we had to rethink on the day. There was a lot of ringing round and juggling of possible offers. Yes, lots of info is online but you have to ring up too.

I wouldn't be mad about doing it on holiday but of course you could. We were on the phone for hours in total tho. Literally.

It ended well btw and she is happy where she is - we did find somewhere that really ticked all her boxes.

OP fingers crossed it won't be needed for you.
