What I ordered vs what I got

My dog died at the beginning of September. I ordered one of these ornaments with ashes in for £85 after seeing the first picture on the crematoriums website. The other pictures are what I received... It’s too late to complain as it was delivered nearly 4 weeks ago days after my mum had a stroke, so I noticed it was crap but it just got bunged on a shelf. I’ve just compared it to the original pictures for the first time and realised it’s so bad it’s almost funny. It’s awful isn’t it?

Holy moly they're all awful! Shock

CheeseMongrel · 16/11/2020 19:39

No I understand what you mean OP - although the hair is creepy in the first one it looks much better with a small even shaped heart in. The one you have the heart is wonky and a bit too big for the orb - like you say it doesn’t look very professional. Is it worth trying to get some money back and contacting another ashes company to see if they can retrieve the ashes and make something new for you?

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/11/2020 19:40

God the concept of this is just upsetting!

sparklefarts · 16/11/2020 19:41

That's the dog fur in the first one?!?! Boak

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 16/11/2020 19:41

I would really struggle to maintain a neutral expression if my friend had paid £85 for some ashes in a glass bulb. I think they're all awful and feels like the crematorium taking advantage of people when they're not really thinking clearly.

LizaE · 16/11/2020 19:44

I can't see hair in the first picture Confused

kowari · 16/11/2020 19:46

Would you want to end up in a glass orb? If you aren't happy with it why not see if you can retrieve the ashes and scatter them somewhere your dog loved to walk?

TenShortStories · 16/11/2020 19:51

No need for some people to be insulting about the concept and anyone who might want such a thing - OP likes it and wanted it to remember a much loved family pet, nothing wrong with that.

Perhaps you could email and explain the reason for the delay, and say that you don't feel you got quite what was advertised and is there any way it can be redone?

If there isn't I think yours is totally fine (just not what you pictured) and hopefully you'll learn to love it.

Runningoutofnamestochange · 16/11/2020 19:53

The small one has a tiny amount of ashes in it compared to the size you got. If you check the website / order form does it say options for part remains or full remains? Or explain that larger pets will have bigger hearts inside?

I don’t think it’s too late to complain at all. It really would be worth contacting them, you wanted something that meant you could keep your much loved dog with you, instead you’ve got something you are unhappy with.

I do think the one you were expecting your one to be like is slightly nicer. I’m sorry for your loss Flowers
I hope your DM is recovering well.

ImNotMeImSomeoneElse · 16/11/2020 20:01

To the people that can't see hair - can you see wispy bits around the heart?

Its hair.

Elvesinquarantine · 16/11/2020 20:07

Have you any ashes left op? I am getting a ring made with ddogs inside.

We didn't keep any of our dogs' ashes but I understand why people want to do that. They're part of our lives for (hopefully) a really long time and we miss them when they go.

OP, try not to dwell on the medium of where and what your beloved dog's ashes are housed in now, they are there, immortalised and yours to keep. I would get a photo of him in a frame and put this alongside so that I'm reminded of him rather than the format.

I'm sorry about your dog, it really hurts I know. I found one of my dog's hair 'clumps' in one of my slippers about a year after they'd died and I wept buckets - and kept the clump. It's so hard.

It’s not awful, but I do see your point. The glass in the first one looks like a better quality - like one of those old fashioned fishing float globes? More like an ornament than a snow globe. I would let the company know how much you think they differ and that you are not happy with the quality.
Sorry for the loss of your dog ❤️

catfeets · 16/11/2020 20:16

Sorry for your loss. I do feel that people take advantage at a time like this.
When my cat died I ordered a beautiful frame with a poem on the side. It cost around £40 and shipped from the USA.
When it arrived it was cheap plastic with a bit of paper glued on. I was devastated. It was complete tat.

throwaway100000 · 16/11/2020 20:17

I completely agree with you OP.

I think other posters are too fixated on the “hair” and are getting sidetracked. If you ignore the hair (just think of it as a marble patten?) you’ll notice that the first heart is centred better and the item generally looks like it was carried out by someone more skilled. The lights look like intricate twinkling fairly lights and the colours are nicer. It looks like a scene of the sky or a seabed.

The second item’s heart looks like a massive lump of play dough in a basic yellow ball. The colours are off, it’s not centred well, there’s no “scene” etc. It’s nowhere near as skilled or special....which it should be as be, as a sentimental item.

Speaking of sentimental, you might find the hair creepy however the person who commissioned the first item may have requested it? Doesn’t mean OP wanted it. It’s a non issue, not sure why so many people can’t move past it.

Bitboredactually · 16/11/2020 20:21

Sorry all I made a big mistake upthread. Thank you to those messaging me telling me so. I have asked for my post to be removed.

Huge apologies for misreading you OP.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 16/11/2020 20:25

I don't care for either of them, but the first looks like something you'd find around the plug hole of a third rate boarding house in Rhyl. How can you possibly 'ignore the hair'? It's the substantive 'ingredient'.

Wolfff · 16/11/2020 20:42

It’s not too late to complain. I understand where you’re coming from. DD2 and I had cremains rings made to commemorate our lovely cat. I also ordered a hand painted bespoke urn from Etsy. If there are any ages left maybe consider something else and bury this one.

Twillow · 16/11/2020 20:46

I prefer yours too.

RolandSchitt · 16/11/2020 20:54

Did you have a St. Bernard and the advert had a Jack Russell?

I do think yours looks clumsier than the ad, but even that isn't great. That fur!

GarlicSoup · 16/11/2020 20:59

@LizaE

Was your dog a big dog, so more ashes?
I have to say I was thinking this. I think yours is lovely OP, sorry about your dog, and wishing your Mum a speedy recoveryFlowers
HappyDays10101 · 16/11/2020 21:01

I can't believe people prefer yours - it's all wonky! I agree with you OP, its like the facebook setting tat threads - its all about the difference between intention and execution. I think its bad that enough you should let the crem know - there's some people would be devastated by that. Glad to see you're seeing the funny side.

Time2change2 · 16/11/2020 21:30

Yes it differs significantly from the one you bought and you should complain. Presumably distance selling regs come into play as you bought online?
