Is worth a watch?

It is.

Did you know there's a telly addicts topic?

ThistleWitch · 15/11/2020 12:18

I dunno, its on season 4, so its obviously quite popular

Its in all the papers at the moment, so there is a lot of buzz about it

What do you think? Hmm depends on what you like to watch

It's excellent

madroid · 15/11/2020 12:20

But not actually accurate (hence all the fuss). But a good watch.

TheKeatingFive · 15/11/2020 12:20

Yes. The first two seasons were excellent, third a bit of a dip. The initial reviews of the fourth suggest it’s back on form.

thebeautyoftherain · 15/11/2020 12:20

Thanks all, no sorry, I didn't realise.

It’s great! In the middle of a bit re watch this weekend in time for the new season!

And I’m a republican.

Tootsietoot · 15/11/2020 12:21

I really enjoyed it despite being really anti royal and having never really enjoyed any historical style dramas before. Claire foy was just excellent as the Queen.

Mindymomo · 15/11/2020 12:22

I loved the first 2 series, the 3rd I didn’t think was as good, but I am looking forward to watching the next series.

BritWifeinUSA · 15/11/2020 12:23

Yes! Definitely!

VestaTilley · 15/11/2020 12:23

I absolutely love it, and am also not a monarchist!

Series 1 and 2 are mind blowing, 3 is fairly good with some stand out episodes. 4 is reviewed as being very good. Definitely watch it.

EminyBOO · 15/11/2020 12:23

YES! I love it. Especially the first 2 seasons. As much as I adore Olivia Coleman, Claire Foy was better IMO.

the80sweregreat · 15/11/2020 12:27

Being old enough to remember the whole Charles and Diane thing first time around I'm not keen on watching it! I haven't seen any of the others either to be fair.
I like the Queen and her loyalty to public life but the rest of them are not great at all.
There are pics of William dancing in the mail today which are funny. It must be weird being Royal sometimes.

frosted232 · 15/11/2020 12:27

Yes it's a good watch. It's quite emotional at times, the Aberfan episode had me bawling so be prepared!

BrumBoo · 15/11/2020 16:06

I think it'sgreat, and it's not at all my typical 'thing'. I dont like period dramas and I'm pretty much a republican! It's really interesting though, and really well acted (made me fall in love with Matt Smith all over again). Season 2 gets a bit quiet in terms of the writing, but it's really worth watching the whole three/four series. Except the Aberfan episode, which I still haven't been able to watch. I know the story too well, it's just too heartbreaking.

I've even got my husband into it, he loves the historical aspect. He never knew, for example, that Edward VIII had been in contact with Hitler, and was somewhat supportive of his intentions (at least, in terms of power). Obviously, they have taken some liberties with the history, some is exaggerated or changed for dramatic effect. The crux of the history remains though. I'm genuinely fascinated with how they're going to play the Diana story both this season and next.

And if nothing else convinces people to watch it, the actress who plays Anne in season 3 is absolutely bloody marvellous, its worth a watch just for her few scenes. Really, they need a spin off of just Anne in her youth being a sarky cow to everyone in sight.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/11/2020 12:16

I like the Queen and her loyalty to public life but the rest of them are not great at all. The Crown should suit you - the Queen is the only one to come out relatively unscathed Grin

Tobebythesea · 16/11/2020 12:48

Yes, it’s great.

DynamoKev · 16/11/2020 12:54

Not for me. But your experience may differ.

Meruem · 16/11/2020 13:33

I found it really slow and boring. Gave up a few episodes into season 1. I am tempted to give season 4 a try purely because that is a time frame I remember.

Pukkatea · 16/11/2020 13:54

I watched it at first because I quite fancy Matt Smith and I thought it was incredibly boring.

EminyBOO · 16/11/2020 15:40

I thought from a historical perspective it was incredibly interesting. I really didn’t know much about the history of our royal family so found it fairly educational.

Anyone else who’s watching this new series think that Gillian Anderson is just a bit too much Margaret Thatcher? She is doing her very well, but perhaps a bit too well?
