Can I ask for some podcast recommendations?

I've just started getting into podcasts but I can never think of what to listen to. I've really enjoyed the Louis Theroux grounded series but not particularly because of celebs I just love Louis. Also love crime stuff and listened to the first series of serial a couple years ago. Please hit me with your best podcasts :)

Fortunately with Fi and Jane. I’ve recently finished the whole back catalogue and it had me howling in places. Have recommended it to so many friends and have yet to find someone who doesn’t love it. Sometimes the people they interview aren’t of particular interest to me, but I usually love it. The Emily Maitliss one is a particularly good one. Jane and Fi are who I aspire to be when I’m their age!

Shreds is good, about the Cardiff miscarriage of justice case in the late 80s. I also enjoyed a few episodes of Darkney Diaries, The Jordan Harbinger show and Unstructured.

I also really enjoy Smartless with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett as they always have really good guests. And Lockdown Parenting (Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe) is funny.

Redhanded podcast is a fab true crime podcast. Case file and is good too. Caliphate is really interesting, all about ISIS.

Buggabooboo · 12/11/2020 15:10

The Creep Dive - crime/humourous
Not without my sister - two sisters having great chats
The Naked Podcast - women talking about their bodies

DickBastardly · 12/11/2020 15:11

Did you listen to S-Town, from the creators of Serial? I loved that.

Oops have I unintentionally become the thread police? I meant to add there are lots of recommendations in different genres over there. Smile

BookSkark · 12/11/2020 15:35

Off The Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster - I've only listened to a couple of episodes, but enjoying it so far, and easy to dip in and out of when I'm meant to be concentrating on work!

Alez · 12/11/2020 15:38

A radio show rather than podcast bit really good - as others see us. It's on BBC sounds.

I also really liked S town, though by the end it felt quite exploitative so I'm in two minds about it tbh. Interesting listen though.

Egghead68 · 12/11/2020 15:40

You’re dead to me.

Newscast

Americast

There’s no such thing as a fish

DynamoKev · 12/11/2020 15:41

YANBU

NeverHadANickname · 12/11/2020 16:16

Good thread, I need ideas too. I have been listening to Criminal after seeing it mentioned on here. Not every episode is something I am overly interested in but they are not too long. I listen when I am out walking with DS trying to get him to sleep.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 12/11/2020 16:50

The missing crypto queen

This American Life - google best ones to listen to because there are so many. I listened to this fascinating one about two babies that got swapped at birth and found out as adults. (True story).

I also liked The Fake Heiress - its a mixture of reporting and drama

Making - Oprah Winfrey and the Beyonce series

imabusybee · 12/11/2020 17:53

You're Wrong About is my current favourite, very interesting topics and the two hosts are well informed (something I think is lacking on a lot of other podcasts!) They're doing a series on Diana at the moment

Member984815 · 12/11/2020 17:54

Swindled is very good

NeonBella · 12/11/2020 17:59

David Tennant does a podcast is similar to Louis Theroux and i loved it there's 2 series of it currently.
I'm now listening to shag, married, annoyed. I wasn't expecting much but it's so funny. I'm totally hooked and love having to walk anywhere now because I can listen to it 😂

I also loved Welcome to nightvale. It's very weird but also funny. A bit sci-fi/fantasy/horror.

hiptobeasquare · 12/11/2020 18:00

Redhanded- great true crime.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 12/11/2020 18:02

Death in Ice Valley on BBC Sounds. Its all about a woman found dead in Norway in the early 70's under mysterious circumstances. I found it riveting.

ButterflyWitch · 12/11/2020 18:03

Feminist survival project

And the David tenant one

notacooldad · 12/11/2020 18:04

The dropout was very good.
Hunting Warhead Horrible subject but a fascinating.

For true crime I like
Nordic True Crime
Female Criminal's
Once upon a crime
Mens Rea about Irish true crime
They walk amongst us Uk true crime.
I liked Case file until the last few months. All the early ones are good, ( even the adverts - Shipstation- Make ship happen!!)
The Nobody Zone Was the guy an Irish serial killer or was it made up?
Teacher's Pet is astonishing ( assuming you are not in Oz, it has been taken down there.
The Lady Vanishes is very intriguing.

nutella202 · 12/11/2020 20:50
