On Monday DD4 was 11 months old, we were vistitng my mam and she suggested a chinese all-you-can-eat buffet. We have a lovely one that charges adult for DD1 (8) but nothing for DD3 (2) and DD4, however this one not only charged for DD3 which I don't mind so much but they charged for DD4. She must have only eaten a few peas!

my god- i would have said something....our little girl 18m comes to our local one with us and eats a few bits of salad and nothing else.....so they never used to charge for her or my son who is 2.5 and just charge us for the adults that were there, last time we went someone different was waiting our table and tried charging us for both children!!! i said there was no way i was paying for two children, i didn't mind paying for one child as they only has one tiny side plate of food each!!! i saw other kids much bigger eating a couple of large plates and being charged the same amount.....the woman who normally waits on us came over and told her what we normally pay for our little ones!!! and so we ended up paying just what we normally do!!

No YANBU - they don´t make you pay here until kids are 3 years old, some places it´s 4 years old. We always carried DS's ID as he has always looked older.

My mam paid, I have given her the money though. At least we know not to go there again!

Why should you get free meals? Unless it states it as part of a deal? I know children don't always eat much so our 3 usually share 2 meals between them. Last time went out for lunch the waitress was fab and sorted out a funny combo for us so the kids would get what they would eat, instead of having more food cooked and then wasted just to stick to the menu. She got a big tip!

That's outrageous - ours is free for under-5s & I certainly wouldn't pay £3 for the tiny little amount that 2.7yo dd3 would eat (although I have to say my 11mo ds will eat anything that can't actually run away so we would be getting our moneys worth with him). I hope the rest of you ate 'til you could hardly walk

That is nothing! The Disney Animal Hotel in Florida charged us the equivalent of £12 for a buffet breakfast for 12mth old DS, and he only had a cup of milk and a banana. (Worst place I have ever stayed btw)
