Eating way too quickly!

My DC eats a plateful of dinner in minutes, tonight I swear must have been a record he finished what I would call an adult size meal of chilli in under 2 minutes.

He eats it so quickly to get back onto playing games 🙄

AIBU to think it's not good for him to eat that quickly!?

Do you not eat as a family and everyone stays at the table until everyone else has finished. I would get him to slow down by engaging on conversation or even playing games.

AS PP said, have rules about sitting at the table until everyone has finished. Play little table/conversation games. Or put a ban on whatever game he is on after meal times to stop this.

We used to all sit at the table together and eat but he would still eat faster than everyone else.
Since lockdown I have had to work from home and my work computer fills half our table, its much too heavy to move regularly so there is only space for 2 to sit at the table now and I tend to feed my 2 DC together and then eat with my partner later.
I always sit nearby and try to engage with him but he wolfs it down and is off.

I've just literally never known somebody who can eat that fast.

How old? The adult size portions aren’t good. He can fit them in because he’s eating too fast to feel full.
Could you encourage him to stay at the table until his sibling has finished? Could you not squeeze on to eat with them yourself & DP eat later? It’s going to be a really hard habit to break if it goes on.

Would one of these work Grin

I'd just make it a rule that once dinners out he has half an hour without being allowed on his game so he can spend that time eating or twiddling his thumbs.
