Neighbour trimmed my bush

Colycola · 09/11/2020 19:44

The next door neighbour whose drive sits to the side of my house has hacked back my lavender bush that may have draped itself on his driveway but has in no way impeded on his parking.

He has then dumped said lavender bush trimmings on the grass verge directly outside my house.

I really don’t want an argument. Do I just ignore him and put him down as being a twat. He is really overly aggressive generally.

@SeasonallySnowyPeasant he isn’t getting anymore of my bush than he has already had.

@ivfbeenbusy

Well he's allowed to cut back anything over hanging onto his property and he's followed the letter of the law by returning the clippings to you 🤷‍♀️

Ignore it - he's not done anything wrong

This is correct, he hasn't done anything technically wrong. Although it is a bit twattish. Just ignore ...
WotWouldCJDo · 09/11/2020 21:05

I read your title and thought, well I know the beauty salons are closed but asking your neighbour to trim your bush is a bit much

I recently learned the phrase for this. It’s called joking the joke.

But he didn’t like your wild bush. You said so yourself. Maybe if you trim your bush once in a while, he can appreciate it in all it’s purple foliage glory? I think it’s just good manners to have a well trimmed bush for your neighbour.

Leave the cuttings lying there, that should piss him off.

fashu · 09/11/2020 21:10

I cut my neighbours bush without asking. She is disabled and relies on gardeners but they never cut it. It looked ugly hanging over my fence so i just cut it up until my fence. Threw the trimmings myself.
My neighbour at the back also cuts my bush for me because i'm not tall enough to reach that one so I just cut the sides. I didn't realise people have problems with neighbours trimming overgrown plants???

HoppingPavlova · 09/11/2020 21:14

Tell him to cut it at the right time of year in future.

If OP maintained it so it did not encroach over time his property he won’t have to trim it and the timing he does so won’t be a problem.

You would not believe the telling off I got from me neighbour for trimming overhanging branches.

It was the first time we had spoken, she didn’t introduce herself just started duelling that I was cutting down trees with permission. She wouldn’t listen, wouldn’t believe I was allowed to trim overhanging branches, just kept calling me a bad neighbour. Gave me a whole lecture about getting permission from all neighbours before doing anything that might impact privacy.

She and her husband have since built a deck, without necessary planning permission, that allows them to look into my whole garden. My six foot high fence is now waist height.

I am biting my tongue but the hypocrisy is galling

Sweettea1 · 09/11/2020 21:19

If it was growing on his side he had every right to trim it i have had to do this myself with neighbours bushes altho i just binned them never dumped them.just because you like/want them doesn't mean he does. You trim it in future then he won't have to.

Burnthurst187 · 09/11/2020 21:20

The woman that lives next door to us leans over the front wall and trims our hedge. It's not even overhanging onto her property. Saves us a job I guess

A few years ago she leant over the back fence and cut a branch off something of our's that I can't spell! Again it wasn't even overhanging her property

DP sprayed some weed killer on her plants one night. I shouldn't laugh but I am

naemates · 09/11/2020 21:26

wot that's brilliant, I didn't know that I needed to know the name for it! We usually just say 'ok Susan' because of my friend Susan who loves to state a punchline Smile

WotWouldCJDo · 09/11/2020 21:33

Ha! I think I prefer Ok Susan!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/11/2020 21:34

@Kolsch

I read your title and thought, well I know the beauty salons are closed but asking your neighbour to trim your bush is a bit much 😮 On a serious note, although it may not be impacting on his parking, lavender is quite woody and may have scratched his paintwork? I would ignore it, but keep it trimmed back in future. It's not worth souring relations with your neighbour for.
I'm afraid I thought exactly the same.

I just have a bad mind.

Trimming lavender hard back can cause it to die suddenly though - you have to be careful with it. I hope it's ok.

PutYourHeadscarfOnNorma · 09/11/2020 21:34

Ignore. If your bush is on his land, he can interfere with it however he likes.

He can trim but he’s meant to ask if you want the trimmings so to speak. He should not dump them.

I’d let it go... or trim it yourself, as he’s allowed to trim whenever he likes.

MadameMeursault · 09/11/2020 21:42

I hate lavender with a passion. I would go crazy if any strayed onto my property. He’s well within his rights. Let it go.

Also you say he’s aggressive, but what are you like with him if you consider what he’s done to be wrong?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/11/2020 21:43

This is an issue close to my heart and my neighbour has a long run of sycamore trees planted tight up against my fence. If I didn’t cut them back I would have no light or grass in my Tiny garden. Those bastard weeds grow a foot a year.

Sycamores are just blddy weeds! They grow horribly quickly, get to a height of about 50 feet, the flowers drop sap everywhere, the seeds sprout up everywhere and the leaves are a bgger in the autumn! They're a b*gger to kill off, too. Keep growing back from the stem no matter how far you cut them down.

Why, yes. Yes - I have had sycamore-related experiences. What made you ask?

caffeineanddryshampoo · 09/11/2020 21:46

Ooh err misuss

Reborn2020 · 09/11/2020 21:52

Me too Shock

Oh well, it's a shame it is just another hedge cutting type one...

Popcornismandatory · 09/11/2020 21:52

Just for repeating the word "bush" in an increasingly fnarr fnarr 'aren't I clever' way you are being very fucking unreasonable.

Grow up!

Ideasplease322 · 09/11/2020 21:55

SchadenfreudePersonified There should be a support group for people living under the shadow of neighbour’s sycamore trees.

There are about seven tuning up the side of my house - ugly and straggly. They dump the most enormous amount of leaves - about a foot deep at the moment in my garden.

The awful lady living next door to this house is a typical Karen (and I hate that sexist term, but she fits the bill perfectly). Yelling and complaining - her view was I should have the trees taking over my garden because they have her some privacy (I have a six foot fence, I couldn’t even see he when she was scolding me in her superior manner).

As you can tell I really hold a grudge😂. I hate hearing her voice In the garden.

Nanny0gg · 09/11/2020 21:58

@Procrastination4

Lavender at this time of year is unsightly. I wouldn’t blame him for cutting the stuff that’s encroaching in his driveway. As for the roller skating, surely no one should be roller skating on a street? Why didn’t she stay on your property? You seem determined to paint your neighbour as the bad guy here.
Why shouldn't she be roller skating on the street?

Children are allowed to play on the street, surely?

Candyfloss99 · 09/11/2020 21:59

This really isn't something to get upset over let alone give it a seconds thought.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/11/2020 22:03

As for the roller skating, surely no one should be roller skating on a street?

I'm genuinely curious what this PP thinks rollerskating involves?

Just for repeating the word "bush" in an increasingly fnarr fnarr 'aren't I clever' way you are being very fucking unreasonable. Grow up!

Ah finally, the MN humour police have arrived. I was wondering what took so long.

Has anyone pointed out that the OP is triggering to those who don't have Lavender Priviledge yet?
