Neighbour trimmed my bush

123 replies

Colycola · 09/11/2020 19:44

The next door neighbour whose drive sits to the side of my house has hacked back my lavender bush that may have draped itself on his driveway but has in no way impeded on his parking.

He has then dumped said lavender bush trimmings on the grass verge directly outside my house.

I really don’t want an argument. Do I just ignore him and put him down as being a twat. He is really overly aggressive generally.

To be fair I did not plant my own bush. It’s an adopted bush. I thought I always preferred a clean landscape but I like it quite unruly. So have let it flourish. But obviously too much flourishing has caused an issue.

Thus the shears have been taken to my elaborate mop of purple and it has been hacked at in quite an unseemly uncaring manner. Had I known he was so keen to tackle my foliage I would have perhaps supervised and suggested we turn the topiary into something that delights us both.

He’s done you a favour, it will grow back bigger and better next year.

Colycola · 09/11/2020 20:33

RaspAsYouChokeOnTheToupee

My bush is a nuisance, it’s scratchy and wild

Oh, come on OP! You’ve got to be having us on with that comment! grin

  1. He's a twat.
  2. Leave the cuttings where they are, they small nice and are hi a shelter for insects.
  3. Let his tyres down.
giantangryrooster · 09/11/2020 20:37

It looks stumpy, don't let him do your bikini vax Wink.

ArabellaScott · 09/11/2020 20:38

I'm just here for the sniggers, personally.

Although I'm sure your neighbour should be more appreciative of your fragrant purple bush. Maybe he could have offered to do something with the clippings - stuff a pillow, perhaps?

jessstan1 · 09/11/2020 20:39

I like the thread title.

Zixxy · 09/11/2020 20:39

Neighbour trimmed my bush LOL.

Some might enjoy that in private.

Colycola · 09/11/2020 20:39

Tomorrow I shall take a photo of my bush in the most flattering light so you can tell me your thoughts on my foilage.

MiddlesexGirl · 09/11/2020 20:40

Your child is fully entitled to rollerskate up and down the street (assuming she is respectful of pedestrians etc).
Your neighbour wbvu about that.
Unfortunately he is entitled to trim your bush although a decent neighbour would ask first and/or negotiate a good time to do it or allow you to do it.

Teddybear27 · 09/11/2020 20:40

He is quite within his rights to do this.....

Katypyee · 09/11/2020 20:42

@VinylDetective Totally sniggering here.

You don't want a neighbour trimming your bush, cut back your bush and keep it on your side. They haven't done anything wrong at all.

Still sniggering over 'bush trimming'.

Ideasplease322 · 09/11/2020 20:45

@ivfbeenbusy

Well he's allowed to cut back anything over hanging onto his property and he's followed the letter of the law by returning the clippings to you 🤷‍♀️

Ignore it - he's not done anything wrong

He has fly tipped, by the law he has to offer, but can’t just dump the.

I entered this thread thinking it was about something else entirely backs out disappointedly

Oh God! Thank you so much for this thread. 🤣
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 09/11/2020 20:47

@DobbyTheHouseElk

I like to trim my own lavender. It can kill it if you cut too much into the wood.
One can only hope! I hate lavender!
Ideasplease322 · 09/11/2020 20:50

This is an issue close to my heart and my neighbour has a long run of sycamore trees planted tight up against my fence. If I didn’t cut them back I would have no light or grass in my Tiny garden. Those bastard weeds grow a foot a year.

I am absolutely entitled to cut back to the boundary But another neighbour yelled at me for doing it. She felt that they gave her privacy and I should trim them without her permission (not her trees).

No one is entitled to grown things into their neighbours gardens (unless a tree has a preservation Order) and it is rude to expect neighbours to allow their garden to be encroached by your shrubs (I hate lavendar! )

Colycola · 09/11/2020 20:51

I bloody love a bit of lavender. Is it unreasonable to hope my bush grows so wild and free eventually I’ll be able to charge influencers to have their pics taken in it?

@Krampusasbabysitter

OP, you are still being very Yabu. And to be fair, roller skating up and down outside when you are trying to work from home can really be jarring and annoying. Now I would probably try not to shout but I'd be getting irritated by you if you were my neighbour. You don't like him because he isn't putting up with you and your family being a nuisance.
A child roller skating in the street?!

Tough luck if that's annoying tbh. It's not like she was shrieking.

@Colycola. It looks dead anyway.

If he shouts at DD again send a well built friend around to suggest he doesn't do it again. If he does, call the police. He doesn't get to be a bullying prick.

VanGoghsDog · 09/11/2020 20:54

My neighbour's ivy overhangs my drive and 'in no way impedes my parking' but I don't want it hanging over my drive, so I cut it back.

Obviously I'm also a twat.

OhDearMuriel · 09/11/2020 20:55

He is allowed to cut it back, but what a wanker leaving the mess on the verge like that.

I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of removing it/acknowledging it - just leave it but make sure you cut it back next time.

Yeah. I think many of us were!

It's not a good idea to get intimate with your neighbour though, because when you decide he's not the one for you & you don't want a FWB arrangement anymore things get tricky.

Not that I'd know of course...😉

ILoveYoga · 09/11/2020 20:58

You do know your daughter roller skating and the lavender are two separate issues. What the neighbour did about the lavender he was entitled to do, you know this.

Suggest you chat with him and advise in that next year you will trim your lavender and keep it off his driveway

DaddysGirlForLife · 09/11/2020 20:59

@Brighterthansunflowers

Trim your own bush so he doesn’t have to
I'm sorry but I had to laugh at this... immature I know. Grin
SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 09/11/2020 21:00

Another one sniggering at the back.

Give your NDN a potted lavender plant for Christmas OP.
