Heinz tinned spaghetti: first trimester food of the gods

Redolent · 09/11/2020 15:57

So comfortingly bland in these times. Nothing else is quite as edible.

Method:

  • Tip into bowl
  • Microwave until bubbling hot
  • Take out, stir, and microwave until molten magma
  • Sprinkle just a tiny bit of salt
  • Eat with chopsticks for a touch of refinement

Next step: try with mash.

Any other first trimester food comforts?

Heinz ravioli in a tin

confuddledroz · 09/11/2020 16:04

ready meal cottage pie (sometimes served with spaghetti hoops!)

Simplyunacceptable · 09/11/2020 16:06

I lived off Rice Krispies during the first trimester with DC4. I couldn’t stomach anything else, think it was just them and ready salted crisps. I felt sick all of the time until about 20 weeks, it was so wretched.

ForeverHomeSearcher · 09/11/2020 16:22

Yes!!!! Just restocked after a second trimester lull 🤣

TheIblisHasspoken · 09/11/2020 16:32

I am not a fan of chips (weirdo I know!) But the only think I could stomach in the first trimester was McDonald's chips! The cravings only got more bizarre as time went on!

ShirleyPhallus · 09/11/2020 16:33

Chicken noodles

Serve on toast with a sprinkle of cheese for refinement

Longdistance · 09/11/2020 16:39

I used to like sardine and tomato paste on toast Blush

LittleWestie · 09/11/2020 16:41

Omg this was mine!!

Heinz Spaghetti hoops and mashed potato.

Either that or the Pasta N Sauce packets at about 7am. Cheese and broccoli flavour 👌

LittleWestie · 09/11/2020 16:43

Oh and can't forget the mad dash to the kitchen cupboard for pickled onion space raiders at 3am. DH ate my last packet once... He is fortunate to still own all of his anatomy.

LetsAllSpeakScience · 09/11/2020 16:44

Plain egg noodles with lots of salted butter. Gloriously satisfying carbs in 3 minutes and no strong taste if it comes back up again

TheKeatingFive · 09/11/2020 16:46

Ravioli
Mashed potatoes
Prawn cocktail crisps (I know rite Blush)
Peanut butter bagels
That M&S trail mix stuff (binge tastic)
Boost bites

MustardMitt · 09/11/2020 16:47

My first trimester the only thing I could keep down was orange ice lollies!

LittleWestie · 09/11/2020 16:47

Prawn cocktail crisps (I know rite blush)

These are my favourite flavour even outside of pregnancy, is that not normal or something?! 😂

Was anyone else completely unable to eat sweet things at first? I couldn't stomach chocolate or sweets for a long time. Had to be carbs on carbs with a dusting of more carbs for the majority of the first and into the 2nd Tri!

liveitwell · 09/11/2020 16:49

Peanut butter sandwiches for me!

Soundbyte · 09/11/2020 16:50

I lived on cheese and veg pies from Asda, vegetable gravy and ready to cook Yorkshire’s puddings for about 4 months in the beginning of my last pregnancy. I couldn’t keep much down and went off practically everything else, meat especially!

Oh and weetabix and shred does whereas I’d always hated cereal of all kinds prior to that.

Soundbyte · 09/11/2020 16:50

Shreddies*

HelplessProcrastinator · 09/11/2020 16:53

Marmite on toast dripping with butter for the bad nausea days (week 4-22) then peanut butter sandwiches, Snickers, peanut M&Ms and cheese Doritos. Peanuts were on the banned list first pregnancy but I thought the guidance was wrong and it changed for DC2.

OwlBeThere · 09/11/2020 16:54

One of the only foods I could face during my hyperemesis days! With most of the juice strained off, with a bit of salt and black pepper.
Haven’t been able to look at it since though.
Pasta and sauce by batchelors, and potato waffles were the only other things I could face

bearlyactive · 09/11/2020 16:56

FFS now I'm craving McDonald's chips and I'm not even pregnant!!
LoseLooseLucy · 09/11/2020 16:57

Spaghetti hoops on potato waffles with a cheese slice melted onto the waffle, some black pepper 😋

This sounds compelling. Or maybe it’s just the mention of butter. Grin

I still eat this now, though I only like the kids ones )they def taste better) so I can often be found tucking in to a tin of minions or peppa pig on toast!

Tidypidy · 09/11/2020 17:26

Just watch out for the tomato based heartburn later in the pregnancy!

Newmumatlast · 09/11/2020 17:32

I wasn't sick at all so there was no limit on my food intake haha didn't really crave much either but if I had to pick it was chicken, fries and fizzy sweets

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 09/11/2020 17:34

I still love tinned spaghetti. But I always put cheese in it. Carbs, protein and fruit (toms). Could just eat it now.

With ds2 I just craved white toast with butter and apricot jam.

My go to lunch last week was microwave rice noodles with scrambled egg and sweet chili sauce.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anywhere that sells the wok ready rice noodles you keep in the cupboard.
