...to hate the message on this wall art?

I saw this in The Range, and I've seen similar memes on social media.

It annoys me that it suggests women are unable to be forthright and use passive aggressive comments instead.

I don't think this is the case for most women who are perfectly capable of being open and honest.

Or is it just a 'joke'?

Is this really all you have to worry about? It’s a lighthearted joke sign.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 08/11/2020 23:23

Ugh gross. I hate tacky shite like this.
I thought we agreed that this is sexist nonsense now? What's happening with the world - today I also got an email from Matalan with the subject "Looks every 40-something woman should be wearing". Fuck off Matalan

Yes we all know that it's the law to only ever post your biggest worry on MN Hmm

Stuff like this matters - it's everywhere everyday and makes up a very misogynistic bigger picture

Merename · 08/11/2020 23:26

I am on the fence. Things like this are irritating, I agree, and part of everyday sexism for sure. But I think they do stem from a tendency among many women not to be straightforward as well. I for one am trying to work on that one!

DressingGownofDoom · 08/11/2020 23:27

Lots of women do use these phrases when they're upset though because they know if they say what's annoying them they'll be called a nag or have to deal with an argumentative or even violent man.

shinynewapple2020 · 08/11/2020 23:28

I can't see who's actually going to put that up in their house ? Single men ? Weird .

There’s a whole thread of them who are frothing at the mouth that the OP had the temerity to suggest that The Range may not be an essential shop. It’s worth a look if you don’t believe that people want to buy shite like this and insist their mental health will plummet if they can’t.
ViciousJackdaw · 08/11/2020 23:37

Why were you looking as non-essential items, don't you know we're on lockdown?

Only messing, sorry I couldn't resist! I do agree with you actually. It is rather misogynistic and helps perpetuate all kinds of shite.

No, the current must-have from The Range is clearly this beauty:

Blush But MN is actually quite full of these. Never say anything directly because "don't like confrontation" and people should know. Not even joking. There was a thread about how to passive aggressively let work know about something

MistyGreenAndBlue · 08/11/2020 23:49

I know just as many men who do this as women. So yes, sexist stereotyping.

wallyb · 08/11/2020 23:56

I've never been to The Range, clearly I'm not missing much.

Audreyseyebrows · 09/11/2020 00:03

It will be hung up right next to the live, love, laugh sign.
Stay away from people who buy these.

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 09/11/2020 00:08

What Audrey ^ says.

FrangipaniBlue · 09/11/2020 00:09

YABU for calling it "wall art" Grin

NeonGenesis · 09/11/2020 00:10

Its very tacky. I don't think it's particularly offensive, though

Wow. Irritating, sexist, and justified.

MadameMeursault · 09/11/2020 00:15

It’s sexist shit. YANBU OP.

nestisflown · 09/11/2020 00:19

It’s not art but to be fair I use all those terms in that way. Obviously can’t generalise but I know a lot more women who say “fine” and mean the opposite, than men that do.

Why would anyone want to display that on their wall though?

NOTANUM · 09/11/2020 00:20

I hate it too.
It's as sexist as calling women Karen which seems to be the latest thing.
By the way, what is the Range? I don't think they're in the SE.

MonroeM · 09/11/2020 00:21

@wallyb

I've never been to The Range, clearly I'm not missing much.
I class the Range as a poor man's version of Dunelm but like a good browse occasionally and have bought some very nice things there. It is an Aladdin's cave of all manner of home furnishings/lighting and quirky other things you tend not to see in other stores. They have a large pet department and garden centre too.

Those Keep Calm and Carry On kind of wall hangings have been around so long now and are a bit out of style in my opinion but I do confess I have a couple of similar things on my kitchen wall.

upsetandang · 09/11/2020 00:24

I wouldn't be seen dead with this on my Facebook wall, never mind my actual wall.

saraclara · 09/11/2020 00:24

Ugh, these things are awful. But there are as many of them listing men's 'quirks'/failings. They're just brainless and I have no idea who buys them.

They're in the SE.
FortunesFave · 09/11/2020 00:50

Load of old twaddle isn't it? It's like those signs which say "Eat" or "Cook" in the kitchen. I always say we should have signs that say "Piss" in the toilet or "Shag" in the bedroom.
