So where we live parking is awful as most houses have a cars. The one thing that winds me up is the people who have a driveway yet park on the road. Not just little driveways either . So they then take up parking and other people have to battle to find a space . I know there are bigger things going on and parking outside your own house isn’t a given right but I just find this very selfish and annoying . Rant over will now go and refill my wind glass

Prepare to be told you don't own the road etc etc but I agree! We don't have a driveway and our neighbour does but sometimes they move their car outside our house and leave it there for days.

Wineisrequired · 08/11/2020 20:43

Sorry just noticed the awful spelling it should read a car and not cars and wine glass not wind glass ....

I meant to add I don't know why anyone would want to leave their car on the road when they don't have to!

Simplyunacceptable · 08/11/2020 20:46

Hate it so much, it’s one of my major gripes in life. There’s a house a few doors up who park on the pavement so I can’t get past with my pram (tbh even just a person walking would struggle) and they have a driveway! It’s so lazy and selfish, hate it. Have to walk in the road with my baby and toddler WHEN THEY COULD JUST USE THEIR DRIVEWAY. I think they think they own the pavements.

torquewench · 08/11/2020 20:48

YADNBU. Also, if people can afford upwards of £80k for a brand new massive motorhome, they can afford somewhere to store if when theyre not using it and not block the sodding road with it for months on end

Wineisrequired · 08/11/2020 20:52

@PinkSparklyPussyCat- I agree it’s not a given right but when they have a driveway but don’t use it it is a bit odd.

YANBU. We have a car and a motorhome and are fortune enough to have room to park them both on our drive. The house opposite likes to block the bit of our drive where our motorhome is even though they have a drive of their own!! We have to knock on to tell them to move their car every time we go camping and again when we get back! (They don't fully block it, just enough so we can't get on or off)

DaddysGirlForLife · 08/11/2020 20:54

My neighbour does this. Her drive way is full of sh*t, that's why she can't park on it. Grr.

If parking is in high demand, perhaps they could be worried about being blocked in by someone irresponsibly parking in front of the drive?
Wineisrequired · 08/11/2020 20:55

I may knock on their door next week and ask if they want to rent me a bit of their drivewaySmile.

Yes my old neighbours use to park opposite our driveway rather than park on their driveway and it made it a right pain to reverse off. It drove me round the bend hahah

balzamico · 08/11/2020 20:56

My problem currently is with neighbours using the spaces outside/ near my house - which they're perfectly entitled to do - and then not moving their cars for weeks on end! The 3 nearest spaces have been occupied 24/7 by 3 vehicles belonging to 2 neighbours 😡

Wineisrequired · 08/11/2020 21:01

The other issue is if you park to far down one end of the road the guy in the last house complains and even put cones along the edge of the road. My son threw them in the hedge and the guy came out shouting at me. I politely said it’s a public road and he backed off . I was a bit scared though .

One of my neighbours, who lives at the top of my road on the T junction, parks his crappy wreck of a van with all 4 wheels fully on the pavement completely blocking the view in to and out of the junction. Which is bad enough, but the road is basically a single carriageway at the junction because of the above mentioned motorhome across the other side. Ive lost count of the near misses Ive had with other vehicles and pedestrians as a result of their parking!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/11/2020 21:11

To be fair I've never seen anyone do that, and even if that is the case I don't understand why they only ever park outside my house! If they're parked there and I hear them leave I now move my car so that can't get back outside my house. Petty I know but my car is insured as being parked in my postcode that's my excuse for moving it!

TravelDreamLife · 08/11/2020 21:12

I live in a wide street, houses have plenty of parking. It's been developed across the road recently (was farmland). All units. They all park on the street & now we've got to pull over if a car comes the other way because both sides are parked on & there's not enough room to pass someone.
Also neighbour has garage that can fit four cars, another two on the drive. It's a 3 bed house. Yet they seem to have six cars, park on the street AND fully across the footpath. So you have to walk in the middle of the road to get past & if someone visits us they have to park on our front lawn as the neighbours stolen all the parking spots. I really, really mourn my quiet, wide street.

Northernsoullover · 08/11/2020 21:16

Is it true that parking on your drive increases your insurance? If so I wonder if its a marked difference?

PrettyinPink80 · 08/11/2020 21:17

Put neighbours do this to! They have a drive with space for two cars but for unknown reasons park at least one outside on the road? We've all had damage to our cars including being keyed yet they still do it? She's horrible but he's nice so I once politely asked to rent their drive, he said no but we'll start using it... That was 18 months ago... Weirdos 🙄

mineofuselessinformation · 08/11/2020 21:19

Round here, people have allocated spaces in parking areas if they don't have a drive.
Most people don't use them, and happily park on paths, corners and even a roundabout.
I'm waiting for the day when an emergency vehicle tries to get through, and they have the balls to complain that their car got hit....

LST · 08/11/2020 21:19

@northernsoullover our motorhome insurance went down when we told them it was going on the drive

As far as I know it decreases insurance but as I haven't had a driveway since I left home I could be wrong!

I remember one insurance company refusing to believe how many postcodes there are in my road and telling me I had to call them every time I wasn't parked in my own postcode which was ridiculous.

m0therofdragons · 08/11/2020 21:24

One of my neighbours has one garage (which they do use). They have 4 cars so 3 on the road in a small cul de sac!

Newnamenewopenme · 08/11/2020 21:41

It knocked £70 off my insurance to park on the road..... plus it’s a lot more convenient parking on the road because the driveway is so tight.

The dogs and kids play in the garden too, if there was a car on the drive they wouldn’t have as much space to play.

www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/parking.html these are the rules regarding parking nowhere does it say you must park in your drive if you have one!
JuniLoolaPalooza · 08/11/2020 21:43

My "favourite" is my opposite neighbour who is too lazy to park on his drive every time so parks across it, making is v difficult for me to get on or off. One day I got home and he was talking another neighbour and I pulled such a face at his idiot parking she told him to move his car!
