Vegetables in a roast? Not sweetcorn

I’ve come around to thinking that there should be greens served with a roast rather than just roasted vegetables - today we had kale on the side with our roast beef, yorkshires, roast potatoes and carrots which was nice. My parents have peas which is a bit odd.

But I really don’t think sweet corn works.

We have broccoli and carrots. Those are our favourites and they're easy to source and cook together.

Sweetcorn is an abomination, especially so on a roast!

Why is peas odd? I don't like them but they feel like the quintessential roast dinner side to me! We've never been a greens family though.

I love sweet corn. But never in a roast! What on earth?! Only permissible roast vegetables are carrots, broccoli, green beans, cauliflower or parsnips.

Roasts are yuk IMO. So there! But each to their own.

Sweetcorn gets stuck in my teeth sometimes and is indigestible most of the time, so it is a NO from me whether in a roast or not. LOL

@mnahmnah has it correct, those are the essential roast veg. I will accept peas but no, not sweetcorn.

Not keen on peas or carrots either. However I serve them and sweetcorn with a roast as my dc eat them..they don't go on my plate.

My personal choice would be roast parsnips and a leafy green veg.

In my opinion, at the bare minimum a roast needs a green vegetable (cabbage, broccoli, peas) , an orange vegetable (carrots, mashed swede) and a white one (potato, parsnips, cauliflower. Cauliflower cheese with ham/gammon only).

It does not need a yellow one.

I once got served baby corn with a Christmas dinner which was odd. The rest of the meal was lovely, but it just seemed a rather unusual addition.

Sprouts.

Also broccoli, green beans, broad beans, carrots, red cabbage, roast beetroot, swede. Maybe asparagus or mange touts if it’s roast chicken, or leeks.

I like at least three vegetables, of at least two colours. Not sweet corn

I’m with you. Sweetcorn and gravy is wrong.

Red cabbage (or any cabbage/kale) is one of my top veg favourites on a roast dinner. Also parsnips. Sprouts in winter. I particularly like whole roast onions too.

I’ll often cook peas, carrots, broccoli, green beans/mangetout with a roast. I enjoy those but wouldn’t campaign for any to have to be included.

Cauliflower cheese is all kinds of wrong with gravy.

A reast needs a good selection of vegetables... we have broccoli, carrots, parsnips and beetroot. Sometimes cauliflower cheese or sweet potato. No, to sweetcorn or any leafy green vegetables.
