incase it gets on the babies designer clothes.

Perfectly reasonable? (YANBU)
Totally unreasonable? (YABU)

[Not about me, just something I have just seen!]

Your husband’s shirt collars more like! 😬

JuliaJohnston · 08/11/2020 19:22

Totally unreasonable, as is the designer baby clothes.

TheRealJeanLouise · 08/11/2020 19:23

Ahahahahahaaaa!! Biscuit

Sparklesocks · 08/11/2020 19:23

So baby clothes can get vomit/spit/food/milk on them but not Lippy? Grin

Gncq · 08/11/2020 19:25

How many nannies actually wear lipstick anyway? It's not exactly a traditional customer facing role...

Pandamanium · 08/11/2020 19:26

This family did throw out a 350 pound designer blanket because it got poop on it...

Bonkers.

FTMF30 · 08/11/2020 19:26

I initially was going to YABU bit I suppose it could be seen as a reasonable part of uniform.

I know this is different but, when my dsis woukd look after my DH on the odd occasion, I asked if she would mind tying her hair up. The amount of times my poor son got hair whipped in his eyes were countless. She didn't mind at all.

For a workplace, I generally think it's more reasonable to request things that not be worn rather than what SHOULD be worn. If the nanny doesn't like it, she doesn't have to work for her.

flaviaritt · 08/11/2020 19:27

If the nanny doesn't like it, she doesn't have to work for her.

That’s true, but equally true of someone asking the nanny to dress like Elmo. Something doesn’t have to be illegal for it to be unreasonable.

FTMF30 · 08/11/2020 19:27

I'd be more concerned about lippy on the skin in case it caused a rash rather tgan on the clothes though.

Ah, the ol’ ‘more money than sense’ types then.

More money than sense, as my Grandad would have said.

yetanothernamitynamechange · 08/11/2020 19:29

Some people just like having lots of rules for the people working for them because it makes them feel more upper class somehow (like they are in Downton Abbey with servants in starched uniform). It actually has the opposite effect.

PurBal · 08/11/2020 19:29

I don't know any nannies that wear a dark lipstick at work...

turnthebiglightoff · 08/11/2020 19:30

The parents are idiots. Proper idiots.

MrsTwitcher · 08/11/2020 19:30

Are family allowed to wear lipstick, would the family mind so much if it was Chanel.

Sparklesocks · 08/11/2020 19:31

@BernardsarenotalwaysSaints great minds Grin

Of course people can spend their money on whatever they like but it does seem wasteful to drop hundreds of pounds on items which are likely to be mucky very quickly.

catsjammies · 08/11/2020 19:34

It's VU. And families like this is why I'm not a nanny anymore 😁

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/11/2020 19:34

Palm the Norland Robots off on people like that

Well I hadn't voted either way. If it was a prospective employee, I think that's reasonable. But if it's an established employee it's a bit off to put this requirement in place now.

Our nursery doesn't allow nail varnish, lipstick or jewellery for H&S reasons. Maybe it's clouding my judgement.

It’s not customer facing but in many roles you will meet and interact with a lot of people - teachers, other parents, other nannies, other staff members. Most people feel better doing these things if they feel they look good. For some that means lipstick and for others it doesn’t but I think it’s fine to let her choose.
CrazyPigeonLadyMarried2Trans · 08/11/2020 19:36

Lipstick is probably one of things you'd need to worry the least about when it comes to what can get on a babies clothes

Heatherjayne1972 · 08/11/2020 19:38

The nanny who looks after the royal Cambridge children isn’t allowed make up. (Or a personal life)

namesnamesnamesnames · 08/11/2020 19:40

Is this about the woman from yummy mummies? I think it's called that.
