I would consider myself to normally be on top on admin and stuff. However, just checking my Amex statement and I thought what is this £9.49 going out every week to Apple? Turns out I’ve been paying every week for premium QR Scanner! I don’t remember ever signing up for it but I’ve been paying for the last 3 months at sodding £9.49 every week. So not a AIBU really but a reminder to check once in a while. iPhone Settings> Subscriptions.

How though and what do you get with this premium scanner?

Dreamscomingtrue · 08/11/2020 19:16

I nearly got caught out with this the other day. I though that the scanners were free. What are you getting for the £9.49.

Beamur · 08/11/2020 19:19

My DH is a sucker for this kind of set up. He also managed to pay car insurance on two cars for nearly a year without noticing (but did wonder why he was so skint!)

triceratops12 · 08/11/2020 19:20

Yep £10 a month for adobe PDF on my phone I didn't realise I had?!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 08/11/2020 19:22

Crikey l would get on to them an request a refund. They can probably see you haven't used it.

No idea. I’ve deleted it now. I think I probably downloaded it on holiday for scanning menus in restaurants....not paying attention or more likely a couple of glasses of wine down...and not realised it wasn’t free. Just thought it was worth sharing in case I’m not alone

I can’t see a subscriptions part. What is it next to?

Specialgodson · 08/11/2020 19:25

I had a similar issue but with bank direct debits - I was paying for a mobile phone I wasn’t using for a least a year and a half as didn’t go ahead when realised ID mobile wasn’t compatible with my handset. They refused any refund.

throwaway10000 · 08/11/2020 19:25

QR scanners are free as you just use your phone camera so that was definitely a waste of moneySad

Normally Apple are fab with refunds with things like this, but I doubt they would give you 12 x £9.49 back unfortunately. It’s worth asking them, they might refund 1 payment at least

Settings, click on your name at the top, subscriptions is in there.

You can scan QR codes using the iPhone camera

How/where would I go about asking? Nothing lost by asking I guess although I blame no one but me for my stupidity/failure to notice.

Try this:

getsupport.apple.com/?caller=cups&PGF=PGF63006&category_id=SC0060&symptom_id=23330

You can select other options on their website too which may lead to a live chat option.

I've had this twice, one was for an app subscription but I switched off the reoccurring billing however, they were still taking money out from my account every month. In the end I had to remove the company from PayPal. Also happened with Roblox and Now TV had to remove them from my bank because stopping the subscription on their websites seems to do nothing.

NorthAndSouthern · 08/11/2020 19:53

Got it now, thanks

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/11/2020 19:58

Yeah. DH and I offered to pay for a year's Netflix subscription for my DM, to help get her through lockdown. DH went round earlier to get it on her TV - and it turns out she already has it, has been paying for it since March, but had forgotten all about it. Confused

LunaMuffinTop · 08/11/2020 19:59

Thank you for the reminder this happened to me once with an app that I downloaded I didn’t realise I had signed up to a subscription until I looked at my subscription list I cancelled it as soon as I found out. It’s bloody sneaky how some of these app do it.

Sh05 · 08/11/2020 20:16

This happened to me with spec savers. I cancelled the contact lenses but didn't realise until 6 months in that my monthly payments were still being taken. My fault for not checking the DD had stopped after month 1.
I got it all back in the end but it was a hassle trying to prove to them that I had not received the contacts in the post for the last 6 months

Sh05 · 08/11/2020 20:17

We've also done similar with Prime, two payments leaving my husband's account two days apart.
