it's been 5 nights now. Enough is enough, surely

So far this week:

  • Fireworks put through a letterbox in Hull causing a house fire, and the death of two cats and one dog.
  • 2 cats have died from having fireworks strapped to them in Wrexham and Bradford.
  • 1 wild rabbit has died from having a rocket attached to it in Ireland.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

SunsetBeetch · 08/11/2020 18:52

Same, same.

This is absolutely horrific. Why why why do people find pleasure in torturing animals?

Someone posted on a thread earlier this week too that someone chucked lit fireworks into a care home.

There are no words. Just sheer disbelief.

Marchitectmummy · 08/11/2020 19:02

5 nights only consider yourself lucky we have had them every night for nearly two weeks and tbe latest I've heard them was 2am. Its woken us all up nightly. Can't believe tonight they are still letting them off. Time to keep them for displays only

AdoptedBumpkin · 08/11/2020 19:04

I quite agree. They were quite intrusive and a bit scary here last night. Very quiet so far tonight.

Jojo19834 · 08/11/2020 19:06

Couldn’t agree more, putting little ones to bed with the noise is hard work

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 08/11/2020 19:06

I don’t mind the fireworks, good to know people are finding ways to have fun. But the 6 whining posts on Facebook for every single rocket - that’s doing my head in.

Hearwego · 08/11/2020 19:07

I think this year they should have been banned, apart from anything else it encourages gatherings of groups.

The fireworks made people do those things?
JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/11/2020 19:08

Oh goody. I thought tying fireworks to animals was a hazy memory from my youth in the 60s. How lovely to know it still goes on

stilltiredinthemorning · 08/11/2020 19:09

Could not agree more. They are so bloody antisocial! I know they're fun for some kids, but honestly there are hundreds of fun things you can do with your kids that aren't so detrimental to those around you. We've had them for about 2 weeks now, they always seem to start just as we're trying to wind my kids down for bedtime and carry on for the entire hour we are doing stories, songs etc. My youngest is really frightened of them so we've just had to let him stay up till they've finished and we're all exhausted!

Sooperdooper19 · 08/11/2020 19:25

People who let off home fireworks are anti-social thick twats. I hate the fact that anyone’s ‘kids having fun’ trumps everything else...

Simplyunacceptable · 08/11/2020 19:29

We’ve had it every night since Halloween.

MaMaLa321 · 08/11/2020 19:33

..and they're bloody big fireworks, the ones that sound like mortars and cost a bomb. I thought people didn't have much money?

Sick of them here too. So random and loud. The impact on animals, fires and littering is abhorrent. DP has been medicated into a coma every night for almost a fortnight (combat PTSD) and so is unable to function properly during the day. But, as I've already said 'shiny shiny bang bang......fuck the neighbours' or 'I want fireworks.....coz covid'.

The sooner they are banned from public sale, the better.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/11/2020 19:48

Your poor DP.

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 08/11/2020 19:50

@Simplyunacceptable

That's absolutely ridiculous Angry
MadisonAvenue · 08/11/2020 19:55

We’ve had them going off almost every night here since mid-October.
Today they’ve been going off since 4.30pm and are still going at almost 8.

My poor dog is petrified, he’s a trembling and panting wreck and we’ve tried just about everything to calm him over the years to no avail. Our nights over the past 3 weeks have been spent trying to calm him, holding him tight, trying to stop him digging through the flooring and the sofa cushions, making dens for him all around the house. As soon as it gets dark until around 10pm.

Burnthurst187 · 08/11/2020 20:00

IMO fireworks should be silent. There's no need for them to make any noise

On Nov 5th I've never heard so many before and then last night was nearly the same. It went quiet for a bit then an absolute idiot started letting off loads more at 10pm. I woke at 1:30am to hear some in the distance

Tonight has been very quiet and it's just started raining so that should be it until NYE

I absolutely despise them, so intrusive hence why they should be made silent for the sake of pets, babies trying to sleep and ppl like me

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/11/2020 20:03

A rocket hit our conservatory earlier. Dog went apeshit.

movingonup20 · 08/11/2020 20:05

Diwali is soon, no respite yet

Whatisthisfuckery · 08/11/2020 20:11

It’s mostly been quiet tonight apart from when we were on our walk earlier, 6:30 ish when some people were letting off the loudest bangers you can imagine. They weren’t letting them off for anything other than the absolutely enormous bangs. No pretty colours or patterns, just huge flashes and bloody great bangs that reverberated all around the neighbourhood. Fucking idiots. There’s a very small unpleasant part of me that wishes they’d blow their bloody hands off.

Last week in the town where I live somebody aimed a firework into the window of a neighbour’s house, maliciously it would seem, and their house burnt down along with all the family’s belongings. They are a low income family and didn’t have insurance.

I don’t really mind fireworks too much on firework night and the weekend closest to the 5th as long as they’re at a reasonable hour and people are responsible, but the amount of people who are just dicks with them makes me feel as if they should be banned from public sale. On balance selling explosives to the general public is an incredibly stupid idea. I’m sorry to all those who enjoy a few fireworks responsibly with family and friends, but there’s no way to determine who will be responsible and who will be an idiot, so they should be banned from public sale.

EatDessertFirst · 08/11/2020 20:11

Diwali round here is normally one big, display at the beautiful temple around 8pm for about 30 minutes then nothing after. Its predictable and DP can cope with that as he can prepare for it (stay at his parents for example).

Its the randomness of the garden fireworks, enormous bangs, rapid gunfire sounding fireworks that trigger him, and many like him I've no doubt. Not to mention the fact that some twats like to set them off at stupid oclock at night.

Popcornismandatory · 08/11/2020 20:14

3 weeks here and fucking sick of it.
This is not an affluent area - lots of benefits/social housing.
Would love to know where they get all this money to literally send it up in smoke EVERY FUCKING NIGHT Hmm

Same around here and I can't help but think the same thing.
